WhatsApp makes official that it ceases to support this iPhone model.
The passing of time does not spare anyone and WhatsApp has just formalized it in a support document that ceases to be compatible with all iPhones on which at least iOS 10 is not installed. This means that WhatsApp is no longer available on iPhone 4s since November 1, 2021, an iPhone model that failed to update to iOS 10.
To use WhatsApp on your iPhone, you need iOS 10 or later.
The IPhone 4s stayed on iOS 9.3.6 so you can’t use WhatsApp after last update. Other more modern models, such as iPhone 5, 5s, iPhone SE, or iPhone 6s can continue to use WhatsApp as long as they update their operating system to iOS 10 or later. And iPhones like the iPhone SE or the first generation iPhone 6s are compatible with iOS 15, Apple’s latest update.
Why has WhatsApp stopped supporting iPhone 4s?
Keep in mind that the iPhone 4s first hit the market in 2011, so has been supporting WhatsApp for 10 years. Additionally, iOS 10 was released in 2016, so WhatsApp is doing pretty well with support.
The official explanation for WhatsApp is that some features can only be implemented on newer operating systems, and for this reason, they left out the iPhone 4s. On the other hand, I don’t think this is a device that many users continue to use.
The next iPhone that will no longer be compatible with WhatsApp in the not too distant future will surely be the iPhone 5 and 5c, remained on iOS 10.3.4. Maybe next year WhatsApp will only be compatible with iPhone with iOS 11, leaving out those two devices.
