As the highlight of the Keynote, Apple left it as the last product to show the world iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The first Pro-series iPhones developed for Apple Intelligence. A facelift over last year’s Pro versions which have enough news to be able to take the step even since the last (now penultimate) generation. Both inside and out. That’s all Apple has brought (beyond Apple Intelligence features) in its flagship product. These are the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
A familiar design, with important new features
Let’s start with the most obvious, the design. With a continuous line, Apple introduced a new color to the Pro lineup, Dessert Titanium (Desert Titanium) which, as its name suggests, has a golden, sandy and metallic tone, returning to the “gold” range of previous models. In addition, Apple has kept the other three shades from last year: Titanium Black, White and Natural. (which looks slightly different from the iPhone 15 Pro Max. At least in the photos.) Of course, the titanium used now is grade 5, which makes it even stronger.
The screen is now larger on both models. While in the Pro goes from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, in the Pro Max model it goes from 6.7 to 6.9 inches. In addition, Apple has significantly reduced the framesmaking it the Apple product with the fewest frames to date. The truth is that the screen is spectacular, giving the sensation of floating in front of us as if the frames did not exist.
Finally, and as the greatest novelty in the visible material part, Apple introduced “Camera Control”
Cameras take a (big) step further
If we talk about the cameras, an increasingly important aspect on the iPhone Pro and the reason why they differ most from the entry models, Apple has introduced significant improvements in order to have a “never seen before” camera.
In the main lens we maintain 48 Mpx (24mm) now with Fusion Camera which allows even more light to enter with a focal length of f/1.78. This lens allows us to zoom up to 2x without loss of quality (2x at 48mm).
Regarding the wide anglethe improvement is notable. Apple has (finally) introduced a 48MP sensor with an f/2.2 focal aperture. This way, the wide angle will work much better and the quality of the photos will improve even in low light areas. A much-awaited change.
Finally, the 5x telephoto lens remains as we had in the 15 Pro Max but also reaching the Pro version, thus forgetting the 3x that equipped it last year.
As you can see, the changes to the camera are significant, but that’s not all. Apple introduced 4K recording at 120fps as well as the ability to use Cinema mode in slow motion. And, as for capturing photos, they have improved the filters, being able to add them in real time.
The capture button or “Camera Control”
Now that we know the aesthetic changes and the new power of the cameras, we can talk and better understand the meaning of Camera Control. The new button not only opens the camera appIt also allows you to take pictures with another simple click, being in a more comfortable position than the volume up button that we could use for this until now.
In addition, Being a haptic button, it has greater functionality
ARTICLE: I can’t help but comment on how Apple, whenever they want to introduce something new on the iPhone, tests it on other devices first. That haptic capture button, with swiping, tapping, etc. It’s been on the AirPods for a while now. This is Apple’s modus operandi..
We continue. Thanks to these possibilities of the haptic button, we will be able to manage several settings on the cameras with a single finger. In principle, the possibilities are as follows:
- A pressure being in the iOS menu, this will open the camera. And once opened, we have the following possibilities.
- A pressure take a picture
- By holding the buttonit will record the video directly
- Light pulse This will allow us to manage the zoom (in addition to having to slide to increase or decrease it)
- Double light pressure will allow you to open the camera settings section (Night mode, timers, etc.).
For all this, the button will give haptic feedback to the userthus understanding that you have pressed or are moving in some way. The capture button is hidden in the hardware of the device since it has the same color because it is covered with a sapphire crystal which gives it resistance while retaining its haptic capabilities.
Let’s talk about the PROtente interior
The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will feature a new A18 Pro chip based on Apple Silicon. The second generation of processors with 3nm transistors featuring a new neural engine
The A18 Pro’s processor has 6 cores, i.e. the fastest processor in a smartphone. 17% faster than the A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro consume up to 20% less than this one. It is also worth commenting on the GPU, also 6-core, which now has 20% more performance being 2x faster than the A17 Pro in ray tracing.
This chip is the first developed with a focus on Apple Intelligence and, therefore, works all its features 15% faster than in previous models. In addition, USB-C 3 or Thunderbolt Team File transmission is therefore faster.
On the other hand, a very important problem for users is the battery, which has undergone an increase (which is always more than welcome) and, thanks to the improved processor performance, its autonomy will also be increased. A double improvement that promises that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max (especially the latter) will have a battery to give and take. Okay, Apple.
Finally, it should be noted that the Pro models will have an improvement in performance also thanks to a new heat dissipation with its new cooling system. An aluminum and glass substructure that dissipates heat 20% more than the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Will we be able to use the iPhone at 100% of its potential in summer? With a bit of luck.
Versions and prices
