Apple already says it this way on its official website: “the function that we hope you will never have to use”. Features like the fall detection that comes with the Apple Watch Series 5 or the car crash detection that comes with the new iPhone 14 are details that, although we don’t want to use them, are appreciated. Yes We already have a very close example that demonstrates this perfectly..
Demonstrate utility within days of purchase
Carlos de Rojas is an Apple device regular who usually takes his motorbike to get around Madrid. A few days ago I was doing this with a friend who was out front on another motorbike, and at some point on the road they passed under a traffic light which turned orange the moment they nearly went under it .
Sometimes it’s impossible to avoid it: Carlos stared at the orange traffic light, assuming that since they were already beside him, his friend would keep moving. But what happened was that his friend braked, and Carlos didn’t have time to react after looking away from the fire and realizing it. He crashed into the trunk of his friend’s motorbike with such bad luck that he fell to the ground and his own motorcycle fell on his foot.
They hadn’t finished moving Carlos to the side of the road when the iPhone sounded the collision alert.
He was lucky: as soon as the fall happened, the people around him helped him, picked him up and moved him to the side of the street. They hadn’t finished moving it when Carlos noticed his new iPhone 14 beeping.
It was the warning sound of accident detection: the iPhone had detected the fall and was about to fall. call the emergency services yourself. Since there were already people around who had called an ambulance, Carlos canceled the robocall from the iPhone.
I never thought I would have to use a feature like this, but yesterday I had a motorbike accident and the help function on the iPhone 14 kicked in. Thanks Apple, it’s little things who make the difference pic.twitter.com/odWFJN2jWz

The result of the accident was a broken foot from Carlosalthough from what he told me it was not too serious and he is waiting for them to check the progress of the wound to decide whether to operate or not.
Carlos himself explained to me that, although in his particular case it was not necessary, he liked that the iPhone was already ready to call the ambulance and notify his emergency contacts. If the fall had occurred in an unfrequented place, the detection of the accident of the iPhone 14 would have been crucial to call that ambulance. The iPhone 14 that was purchased has already proved useful.
Many thanks to Carlos for telling us what happened to him, we hope you recover soon!
