This is one of the main new features of iOS 15 that will help you not to be bothered by unnecessary notifications at different times of the day. Sleep, work, play sports … only receive what interests you when you care, and here we show you how.
Do Not Disturb has been in iOS for several years now, so far as I use it to avoid notifications and calls at inconvenient times, like when I’m asleep. All the while I missed some customization options that Call seemed reluctant to add, However, with iOS 15, no new option has arrived but a complete overhaul of this feature that we can now customize much more than we ever thought possible.
What’s the point of using do not disturb mode or one of its other variations? Well, as long as it’s active, we won’t get any notifications or calls. Receiving an email at 4 a.m. and being woken up by the sound of the notification is not recommended. The same goes for the last Reel uploaded by your roommate on Instagram. However, if your mom calls you at 5 a.m., you might want your phone to wake you up. Here’s the importance of using these modes instead of turning your phone off or putting it in airplane mode., one of the options that many people use. If I turn off my cell phone, no one is able to contact me, and I have people I want to be able to do this with at any time, even if I’m asleep.
If you are going to work, then maybe you open your hand a little more, and not only allow your mom to bother you, maybe you are already allowing calls from your kids’ school, or your brother. . You might not want notifications from Instagram, but you want Mail or Slack. And when you are studying, you better turn off all notifications from all apps but you want your partner’s messages to alert you. With focus modes, th is is all possible, and you can set different modes with completely different settings if you want. You can even make certain pages disappear from your main screen to avoid distractions.
And how to activate all these modalities? Well, you can do that easily from the Control Center or through Siri, or you can set schedules if your routines are well established. Same you can set automations so that when you get to a place, a specific mode is activated: Work mode when you arrive at your workplace, Exercise mode when you arrive at the gym. And when you put them down, they automatically turn off.
All these options and many more can be configured in these focus modes, as we show you in the video, in which we explain all the configuration steps, the different options available and how to activate and modify them on the fly. If you haven’t tried it yet, I advise you to try it because it will surely convince you.
