Google is working on several improvements that will come to devices with the Android operating system supporting the next version, Android 15. Among the new features that we have already learned about are improvements to notification management, improvements to the lock screen, dark mode changes and more.
But the company is also developing accessibility feature improvements, one of them is the screen magnification function, which can be of great help for people with vision problems, and can also be very useful for those who want to see any element, text or object in an application. widened and pointed shape. Starting with Android 15, the system will offer a new gesture to enlarge the screen, as discovered in Android Authority.
Android 15 will allow you to enlarge the screen in just a few clicks
All mobile devices with Android operating system have a function to enlarge the image on the screen, a kind of digital magnifying glass which allows a section of the screen to be enlarged for easier visibility.
We can activate this function from the Accessibility section, found in the system settings menu. When activated, Android offers us several options to access this “magnifying glass” at any time: using a button permanently present on the screen, or using gestures. Currently, the available gestures consist of holding down both volume buttons or triple-tapping the screen simultaneously.
But this will change in Android 15. From the next version of the operating system it will be possible enlarge the screen by double-tapping the screen with two fingers
It’s a simple but effective improvement that promises to work much better than the “triple tap” gesture on the screen. And when we activate this gesture on our cell phones, the system warns us that triple pressing can harm performance of the device, especially when using the keyboard, because the system needs to slow down the response time of the device to avoid accidentally activating the extension function.
By using this double-tapping gesture with two fingers, you avoid this inconvenience and, in addition, the magnifying glass function is accessible more quickly.
However, the triple tap gesture will still be available in the advanced options among the ways to enable the zoom feature, which is understandable given that some people may have difficulty using the double tap gesture with two fingers, and the idea is provide more accessibility options.
The new gesture should be available in the final version of Android 15, although it is very likely that we will see it in an upcoming public beta of the operating system.
