At the end of September, there was a presentation event in Berlin by Xiaomi during which many products were announced, all of which can be purchased in Europe. The protagonists were the Xiaomi 14T series, although the new 85 and 100 inch TVs attracted many glances, as well as the new price of the Xiaomi Watch 2.
It was a launch event in which Xiaomi demonstrated what its strategy is, moving away from being an exclusively mobile manufacturer and by focusing on one of its main assets: the ecosystem. Being able to jointly use products as diverse as televisions, vacuum cleaners, phones or watches is what most differentiates this company from the rest of its competitors.
But that does not mean that Xiaomi does not also bet on what is currently the fashionable technology, the artificial intelligence. In fact, their new phones will include technologies such as Circle To Search, which we have already seen in mobile brands such as the Google Pixel and the Samsung Galaxy and which now come in this high-end Xiaomi family.
Xiaomi and Google
In fact, the integration of this form of search on the screen is not the only novelty of the company, which invited on stage one of Google’s AI directors, Zaheed Sabur, head of Gemini in mobile
The director explained that For the moment, Xiaomi terminals would use Gemini versions that use the cloudbut they ensure that the energy consumption of these versions is as low as possible. Consumption is one of the most criticized disadvantages of these new artificial intelligence platforms.
Again, Xiaomi and Google are working to integrate Gemini Nano into the future development of the brandbut they have not been able to confirm at this time when it will be available. Likewise, they also confirmed in response to a question from EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre that “Xiaomi and Google are collaborating for greater integration of Gemini with Xiaomi’s IoT ecosystem”, in the words of Daniel Desjarlais, communications director and spokesperson for Xiaomi. Of course, when asked if Gemini would also be present in the brand’s future electric cars, the manager replied with a laugh: “We should first see the car in international markets and we are not yet in this situation.”
One of the new features presented could even change the way we interact with mobile phones, giving voice much greater importance. Zaheed Sabur confirmed arrival of Gemini Live on Xiaomi phones, although he could not specify which languages it would be available in at the time of its launch. However, the fact that Google is opening this version of its assistant to more brands suggests that it intends for its deployment to be massive, thus successfully thwarting OpenAI’s commitment.
When asked during the interview why Google was launching AI products that were clearly not finished Zaheed Sabur responded that they “very much appreciate user feedback and that Gemini has improved a lot in just a few months.” The reality is that he is right because the assistant was born with many absences, such as being able to manage the routines of the assistant, but little by little he made a place for himself in people’s daily lives and s is improved very quickly.
Xiaomi has its own AI
But this collaboration with Google did not prevent Xiaomi from stopping innovating in functions related to artificial intelligence, like all those that apply to the camera and which were already available in other models. In addition, In this new family of devices, the company has created large language models which it uses in newly introduced features such as machine translation and AI note creation and editing.
These functions reach the 14T series but in the interview they Daniel Desjarlais was asked if they would reach other models, including the Redmimore economical but with higher average power than its mid-range rivals. The manager’s response was that this would be studied “on a case-by-case basis according to each model and family” given that the processors used and the functionalities greatly affected this type of functions.
