If you have a car with Android Auto, surely you are interested in getting the most out of it and for that there is no way to have the best apps available and to be clear on how you can install them on the console of your car. We asked the editors of Xataka Móvil and Xataka Android what their essential apps for Android Auto and these are their answers.
Android Auto App Downloader
Recommendation from Ivan Linares:
“My favorite Android Auto app is the one that Allows you to install apps that are not allowed on the system:AAAD. Or Android Auto Apps Downloader, a tool responsible for downloading applications such as a YouTube viewer for the car, a phone screen sharing application and many other software created by independent developers.
AAAD lets you discover new software “side by side”, download it to your phone, and manage downloaded apps so they can be used in the car with Android Auto. It seems to me essential to fully tighten the relationship between the vehicle and the mobileAAAD offers very good utilities.”
youtube music
Pepu Ricca’s recommendation:
“There’s nothing like driving while listening to music. I’m not going to discover anything new, but I subscribe to and use YouTube Music on Android Auto. The integration of the official Google application in the cars is good and allows us to easily listen to any shotwith a flick of the finger.
The interface for cars is clean and intuitiveand keeps the player always at our disposal: it has the typical buttons, such as the pause button, as well as the button to skip to the next song, and one dedicated to repeating the current song.
It’s comfortable and doesn’t get in the way of listening to your favorite music wherever you go. Of course, always be careful driving, that’s why I usually perform any action with Google Assistant. And YouTube Music is compatible, how could it be otherwise.”
CarTube
Iván Ramírez’s recommendation:
“You won’t find my must-have app for Android Auto on Google Play, it’s CarTube, an app with which you can watch youtube videos on android autosomething Google won’t let us do except for when it slipped in like an Easter egg (which no longer exists).
CarTube is somehow a fix for watching YouTube on Android Auto, but it works reasonably well to give the car’s screen extra use when we’re parked and bored. Another quite similar option is CarStream, with very similar functions.”
Waze
Ricardo Aguilar’s recommendation:
“My favorite app for Android Auto is Waze or, as I call it, the Google Maps of taxi drivers and Uber. Based on the same database and the same maps, Waze is much more complete, displaying real information on traffic and, above all, speed cameras.
It’s not a matter of running or not running, it’s a matter of many Spanish roads do not have well-marked boundariesand you may be surprised even if you think you’re riding at a legal pace.
The interface is quite optimized in Android Auto, with quick access to nearby gas stations or restaurants with just one touch (important not to have to open the keyboard). I used it recently on a 1,000 km trip, and the behavior is impeccable.”
Google Maps
Laura Sacristán’s recommendation:
“My essential application in Android Auto, without a doubt, is Google Maps. And not only to guide me to my destination, but even if I know the way, it is also very useful for me to know What time will I arrive or is there an alternative route? in the event of a traffic incident.
It’s even good for me watch speed limits or speed cameras.
Google Maps has long been one of the apps I use the most on my mobile, but its seamless integration into Android Auto It made her an inseparable co-driver in my car.”
Google Maps and Apple Music
Álvaro García’s recommendation
“Yes, Waze is a great app for drivers and I really appreciate its features. In fact, it’s been my go-to app for a long time.
However, for some time I have been going to Google Maps both in the car and on my mobile. I know its limits, but The fact that it includes so many functions makes it the most complete from my point of view..
For music, I choose Apple Music. It’s not that I’m particularly a fan of the platform in terms of the interface, but I subscribe to Apple One and since it’s in the pack I try to take advantage of it.
Spotify
Samuel Fernández’s recommendation:
“It has been many years since music is part of my daily life. I listen to it on headphones when I’m doing things around the house, I put it on the speakers when I’m working and, of course, I also take it in the car on all kinds of trips.
It is therefore logical that, for me, Spotify is my go-to app for Android AutoBecause the poor guy doesn’t stop working for a single second.
It’s true that when I have to travel very long distances I tend to use podcasts rather than music as such, and before that I had to look for other programs but for some time now it’s also paid through Spotify. So I’m pretty clear. In my car, Spotify is used more than even Google Maps. music forever.”
