One of the most used services of the Mountain View company is Gmail. Google Mail also has a application for android which is now enriched with a new capacity: Gemini, the American firm’s Artificial Intelligence. As if that were not enough, it changes the way we send emails, resembling in some ways WhatsApp chats.
And there are more changes coming, this time related to security: Gmail added a check mark last year so that the user can distinguish reliable emails. It guarantees that the contact has been verified and is not spam, which is very important in these times. And now, this indicator arrives on mobile phones: Before you answer, look at this brand.
Gmail on Android also wants to protect us from phishing
Scams are back on the agenda: even if they usually arrive by text message or call, Email is another major source of scams.. Techniques like phishing are very dangerous, especially if the origin gains our trust. That’s why Google added verification marks in Gmail, a simple way to indicate to the user that the contact has been verified as a trusted entity.
So far, we have only seen these marks on the Gmail web versionthe one accessible from the browser. On the other hand, Gmail applications on Android and iOS phones have not yet received this distinction. The wait is over: 9to5Google echoes Google’s confirmation of the deployment of the brand.
Named by Google as BIMI (Brand indicators for message identification, Brand indicators for message identification in Spanish) displays brand logos in the avatar space, next to the sender’s name and address. Just like on the web, the Gmail app will display the Google logo instead of the “G.”
Here’s what the branding and drop-down information looks like on the web version of Gmail. It’s coming to mobile in the coming weeks
Gmail will display the blue check mark on senders who have adopted BIMI with a registered trademark. According to the search engine’s signature, “BIMI promotes another security layer for Gmail by requiring strong authentication and verification of logos before they are displayed in Gmail as avatars.”
The verification signal also provides information; when you tap it, a message will appear that will tell us the following: “This sender of this email has verified that they have [web.com] and the logo in the profile picture.” The implementation of these blue marks will take place “in the coming weeks” for the Google and Workspace personal accounts.
