It’s not that I don’t recommend buying refurbished devices. In fact, I am a big believer in buying refurbished iPhones and any other mobile phones. However, I understand the reluctance that may exist regarding a new one. This doesn’t happen, or shouldn’t, when we talk about buy a refurbished Apple TV.
By its nature, purchasing a device like this in terms of refurbished carries less risk than an iPhone or Mac. In fact, my conviction and good experience are such that I would even recommend it over a completely new device.
Refurbished Apple TV: The savings are worth it (and a lot)
Coming back to the comparison with buying a refurbished iPhone, these can be of several types. For the most part, they are all perfectly functional and a good warranty period is usually offered, although depending on the store you buy from we may find different types. There are some with new batteries or those who already have slightly damaged batteries, with a few scratches on the screen or the chassis…
However, on an Apple TV it’s not serious even if it is a little scratched. It’s not pleasant, that’s clear, but if that were the case it wouldn’t be dramatic because in the end it’s going to be placed on a piece of furniture in the living room where you’ll barely see it. As it is also black, it is unlikely to be visible. And in any case, it’s not common either, since in the end, being a device fixed in the same place, it is less subject to shocks.
SO, wear of components is minimal and insignificant. By not having a battery, which deteriorates the most, we avoid problems. Obviously transistors and other elements wear out, but we emphasize that this is minimal considering how useful a device like this ultimately is. In fact, we might die before we see an Apple TV stop working because it’s worn out.
Even if there is a compelling reason it is that of to save money. On Apple’s refurbished site we can find them frequently and with recent models that they still sell new. The savings can be around 20 to 40 dollars. It’s not that it’s brutal, but at least something to keep in mind, seeing as the experience with a new one will be identical.
However, you can find them in other stores in good conditions. I even dare to say it second-hand is even cheaper and just as functional. If you get the remote and network cable included, it’s still a good buy even if it’s not new. Of course, don’t expect an HDMI cable to connect it to the TV, because in the end even Apple doesn’t offer it on the new Apple TVs.
