The email client of Google, which relies on the RCS standard of operators to try to resist WhatsApp Yes Telegram receives a change in its interface since its last redesign in 2018.
The change that we find in the new version of Google Messages it is in the selector for emojis, GIFs and stickers, which is now unified as in WhatsApp and Telegram.
This is the new emojis, GIFs and stickers picker
In earlier versions of Google Messages, the emoji picker has been integrated into the text input four while the GIF and sticker sections are in the attachment menu as we can see in the following screenshots:
With this design, it was not easy to access GIFs or stickers as it required us to do a lot of keystrokes to find the perfect GIF or sticker to share. With the new update, that has finally changed.
In the new design, to access emojis, GIFs, and stickers, just tap the emoji icon. Now under a tab design we will have in the first tab all the emojis, in the second tab the GIFs and in the third the stickers. In the GIF section we have direct access to different categories and in the Stickers section we have direct access to recent and favorite stickers.
Better yet, it includes a new unified search engine like in Telegram. By entering a search term, we can see the results of emojis, GIFs and stickers just by clicking on their respective tabs.
This improvement is welcome, but Google and the operators still have a lot of work to do for users to switch to the RCS standard, leaving out email clients such as WhatsApp or Telegram. The chat function (RCS) is not yet available to everyone. The RCS protocol surely needs Apple’s support to get started.
