AirPods cleaning is an important task to keep them hygienic and operational. Apple has a series of general recommendations, such as not putting them under water, using a soft, damp cloth, and not getting liquids on their grilles. AirPods users have other tricks to keep them clean, though these aren’t strictly official ways.
Different ways to clean your AirPods
From time to time, I usually think about cleaning my AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro. It’s a good idea to watch a reference so you don’t miss it, like e

A few days ago I shared my favorite way to clean them. It consists of using a mastic ball to decorate. The original brand is called Blu Tack and costs 4.71 dollars on Amazon, where you can also find options like Pritt’s for 4.65 dollars per pack. It is often used to hang posters, plates and other similar objects on the wall without resorting to a thumbtack. In my case, I do the following:
- I take a piece of putty and roll it into a ball.
- I sink hard into the various nooks and crannies of the AirPods.
- The case also tends to accumulate dirt on the corners and the hinge.
- Be careful not to press too hard on the AirPods grille area.
This last one is important, because as several followers pointed out to me, if you squeeze too hard you run the risk that the dough passes through the grid and stays there. The most advisable is that you use a new dough and that it has not been heated by the summer heat, because it becomes more sandy and “liquid”. This way, you will avoid unnecessary risks when cleaning your AirPods.

One of the means that caught my attention the most is the use of a compressed air spray (7.84 dollars on Amazon). It serves to blow air into every nook and cranny, with enough force to remove dirt. It is also used to clean other electronic products.
Finally, there is the cleaning pen, a method to clean AirPods that you did not know totally. It costs 8.49 dollars and is designed to clean AirPods and other headphones, as well as anything small and with many nooks and crannies. Many users have recommended it to me and the truth is that it looks good. With the addition that it is surely not necessary to force as it happens with putty.
