Samsung users are waiting for the update to One UI 7, the next big version of the Korean manufacturer’s layer, which contrary to what was thought, will not arrive until next year. Meanwhile, One UI 6.1.1 has a lot to offer to all those Galaxy who receive regular updates, which is not all and little by little, the oldest ones leave official support.
We have recent examples from this same year, which sidelined the S10, the Note 10 and the two popular Galaxy A, being excluded from the list which will soon be updated to One UI 7 with Android 15. The biggest expansion of Samsung’s update policy found with the S24, with seven years of regular updates. Unfortunately, one of the most expensive Galaxy of 2020 also says goodbye
A second generation already old to receive more updates
As our colleagues at Xataka shared, there is a Samsung phone that says goodbye to updates forever: This is the second generation foldable, a Galaxy Z Fold2 that arrived on the market in 2020 and was left aside four years later.
It is true that the Korean manufacturer had not yet implemented the extended update policy, only three Android updates were expected for th is Fold. Of course he collected different versions of A user interface
The brand confirmed this on its official website where it publishes security updates and compatible devices. Although it is old, at least from a technological point of view, we are talking about a very capable smartphone: Snapdragon 865+, 12 GB RAM, UFS 3.1 storage…less technically efficient mobile phones are appearing these days.
Yes, its cameras may seem more outdated, with 12 MP for the main sensor, or 10 MP for the front camera. However, these are not specifications that affect the performance of the terminal, at least on the software side. Now those who still maintain it must choose to be more cautious in the face of external threatslike malware.
There is also the possibility of giving it a new life outside of its daily use: it can act as an interactive diary, a security camera or a video game console, to name just a few examples. Unfortunately, custom ROMs won’t be a relief for Galaxy Z Fold2 owners: it’s a phone with small community
Of course, if users opt for one of the new foldable devices, like the recent Galaxy Z Fold6, they ensure a long-term future with better coverage: Samsung will provide seven years of operating system updates and also seven years of security patches. As times have changed…
