One of soap operas most important in Apple’s recent history has been Apple’s multi-device charging base, named Air power. This was a charging base that allowed charging of different devices via wireless charging, including the Apple Watch, but this Apple ultimately canceled due to technical issues two years after its presentation. However, a few days ago a video appeared in which we see a prototype of this AirPower charging an Apple Watch Series 4 (also a prototype), but which reflects that the watch was charged.
AirPower project canceled, but this video shows how it works
How AirPower worked was relatively new to the technology that existed in 2017 when Apple officially introduced the idea. This was a large wireless charging base designed for Charge multiple Apple devices simultaneously like AirPods, iPhone or Apple Watch. The important thing is that the position of the device didn’t matter As it was loaded equally, careful positioning was not necessary.

The technology used was Network of charging coils located throughout the base, which generated electromagnetic fields and transmitted current to the devices’ coils, making wireless charging easier. However, After several years of testing, Apple canceled the AirPower due to technical issues without any additional information. Everything that has happened so far is just speculation and no official data.

It’s surprising that charging Apple Watches works, considering current wireless chargers generally can’t charge Apple Watches. In this video which was published a few days ago on the social network that the base could recharge Apple Watch. This prototype has 16 coils but there are others that have been seen with 14 or 22, as part of the Big Apple’s testing and production plans. It’s unclear whether Apple intends to release a revised AirPower later, but at least we started to see some videos of a product that would have revolutionized the market at that time.
