It’s clear that Apple has no bad intentions when releasing new features. He doesn’t want to confuse you, he also doesn’t want you to hate him because you’re trying to change your ways. But sometimes if you’re too used to a feature (e.g. on the iPhone), extra pressure can cause the system to do something else. And it can be boring. And to top it all off, the new iPhone 16 has a new shutter button.
A good example of this is found in the iPhone’s lock button. It has several functions depending on how long you press it or how you do it, and one of these functions is often activated accidentally. Let’s take a look at how to avoid it, whether you’re using iOS 17 or have made the jump to iOS 18.
Siri is helpful, but can sometimes be annoying
With the iPhone’s lock button, you can do several things: A quick press locks the phone. Two quick presses activate Apple Pay. Five presses can activate an automatic emergency call. And if you hold the button for a second, you can activate Siri.
But it is precisely this last function that bothers some people, as I have noticed among my friends and family. Next, Siri will ask or send you to an internet link that has to do with what you accidentally overheard. There are people who try to use Apple Pay with the lock button and, By not doing it fast enough, they accidentally activate Siri.
The confusion can be quite annoying because if you want to activate Apple Pay you are in a place where they are waiting for you to pay and possibly a line of people behind you. Result: you want Siri to no longer appear via this lock button.
No problem, you can achieve this through the Settings section of your iPhone.Siri and search‘ and deactivating the ‘ optionBy pressing the side button‘:
This way, if you accidentally press the lock button more than you should, Siri won’t activate. You can continue using it by saying “Hey, Siri.”or by pressing the digital crown if you have an Apple Watch. I usually choose to talk to him, never using buttons. And no more confusion with the lock button that caused nerves in the queue at the supermarket.
And if you still want Siri to be invisible, that is, not working, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings and enter the “Siri & Search” section.
- Turn off Siri by clicking “When you press the side button” and “Turn on when you hear Hey Siri.”
- Go to System Settings, then enter “Accessibility” and finally “Side Button”.
- In the “Press and hold to talk” section, tap the Off option..
