When at EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre we were able to test the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, we highlighted the small changes that made it more comfortable and useful to use; However, we also point out that the design was very conservative, not only compared to the last generation, but also to previous ones.
And Samsung has opted for the same format in its foldable phones since the Galaxy Z Fold 3, with a high and narrow exterior screen to be able to offer an interior screen closer to that of a tablet; and this bet was not affected by the movements of the rest of the market.
New foldable phones like the Pixel Fold or OnePlus Open have demonstrated the potential of mounting a larger external display, especially for users who prefer to use the device more like a conventional phone; On the other hand, Samsung has always prioritized the internal screen, which has been favorable for users who want to use the device as a small tablet.
This would be the Galaxy Z Fold 6
NOW, Smartprix has released the first rendered images of the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 expected by the end of summer, and they indicate that Samsung wants to go its own way when it comes to foldables; Rumors published last year indicated that the company was going to jump on the square-fold bandwagon, but these images, while showing changes in proportions, aren’t as exaggerated as expected.
The images, computer-generated from leaks, show a squarer mobile, but barely; In the image that shows the device from the front, you can really see that the differences are minimal.
By the numbers, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would be 2.6mm wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which translates to just 1.3mm when closed; In other words, yes, we would gain lateral space, but not to the point that the experience is noticeably different. But this can make it more comfortable in the hand, especially if we use the device closed for mobile functions.
Interestingly, the biggest change is not in the proportions, but in the edges of the device. And the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would adopt the design lines of the Galaxy S, with completely flat edges and straighter corners, which would make for a very different mobile to look at, despite similar proportions.
On the other hand, the leak does not expect changes to the camera assembly, which would not adopt the style of the Galaxy S24 with the lenses coming directly from the back and would retain the same design of the previous foldable ones.
In addition to this Galaxy Z Fold 6, rumor has it that Samsung could finally launch a cheap foldable phone, although it’s unclear if it would be a revision of a current model or a completely new model, possibly with different screens.
