While we are still waiting for high definition music on Spotify, the company has decided to completely change its application in an attempt to modernize and jump on the bandwagon of new trends.
[Lo nuevo de Spotify es una Inteligencia Artificial que hace de DJ y te habla]
This means two things: a new design based on large cards that take up almost the entire mobile screen, and a renewed commitment to podcasts.
It’s the new Spotify
The new design was announced at a big event where Spotify reinvented itself for younger audiences and different creators. In recent years, Spotify has invested a lot of time and money to expand beyond music; especially with podcasts, but also with audiobooks, videos and other content.
You probably don’t know any of this, as it can be difficult to find this new content in the current app. The redesign aims to solve the problem that Spotify has created for itself, and for this reason it will be available to all users, even those who use the free version with ads.
According to Spotify, the new interface is “more lively and interactive”; in other words, it is now composed of large cards that display content that we might like, favoring large images and videos that play automatically as we go down (yes, like TikTok). These videos can be short videos created from music videos, for example, if the artist has configured it that way; and if we play something while browsing the stream, these cards will automatically be muted, and if we mute what we are listening to, they will be unmuted.
This content will be more varied than ever. Spotify speaks of “audio creators”, and not necessarily of musicians or artists, specifying that we will see many podcasts, both audio and video, in the new app. The cards will play up to 60 seconds of the episode, with a subtitled transcript.
At least those of us who continue to use Spotify simply to listen to our music have the consolation that in the upper part of the application we will find direct shortcuts that will take us to our playlists without having to go through all that .
Speaking of playlists, the new interface will also feature new AI DJing, using an artificial voice to present songs from a playlist generated using Spotify’s algorithms, much like our own private radio.
Spotify’s new design will gradually reach all users, but not all at once.
