Apple’s financial results presentation is a unique opportunity for investors and the press to openly question Tim Cook on topics they deem appropriate. Apple publicly presents its accounts four times a year and always leaves us with very interesting titles.
On this latest occasion, investors and analysts were clear. What will Apple do with artificial intelligence? If until a few weeks ago they didn’t even talk about it in their presentations and their products?
Not to mention artificial intelligence, to name it dozens of times
If we remember, the last WWDC 2023 there was no mention of AI. It was the perfect time to talk about projects, or simply discuss the features that Apple already offers under this name. However, as we well know, Apple measures its words very precisely.
A good example of this is the Apple Vision Pro, not Apple’s Apple Vision Pro glasses. doesn’t want to be called augmented reality glasses or mixed reality. The Apple Vision Pro is a spatial computer.
Many of us thought that with artificial intelligence they were going to follow the same path, and that’s why they didn’t mention it directly. All that changed with the MacBook Air M3, Apple’s first computer prepared for AI. We were all surprised that Apple used such a direct expression.
If we return to the subject of Apple’s financial resultsTim Cook has used the term “AI” several times. or artificial intelligence. So yes, they have to have something ready to name it without any complexes.
We believe in the transformative power of AI and believe we have advantages that will differentiate us in this new era. One of them is the unique combination of hardware, software and services. Plus, innovative Apple Silicon with our cutting-edge Neural Engine technology underpins everything we create.
Apple will rely on third parties to create its artificial intelligence
This fact should not particularly surprise us. It is very common for companies to collaborate with each other to deliver a service or feature to their customers more quickly. For example, iCloud is hosted on Amazon Cloud servers. Amazon puts its technology and Apple decides how to implement it on your devices.
Something similar will happen with Apple’s AIafter different rumors that we discussed in Applesfera, and a question that was asked to Apple’s CFO during the same results presentation in which he was with Tim Cook.
Goldman Sachs asked a very astute question, in which They asked whether to bet on generative AI by Apple would change the company’s capital expenditures and the way they do it. The response from Apple’s CFO was clear:
At Apple, we have a hybrid model: investing in infrastructure, but also turning to suppliers. We have no plans to change our model.
This shows between the lines that Apple will rely on other companies to carry out its project. This is not to say that Apple is not developing any artificial intelligence models. But you can rely on features from other companies to achieve yours. An example of this would be Microsoft 365 apps which are based on ChatGPT. ChatGPT itself does not have these features, but thanks to its technology, Microsoft integrates them into its Apps.
There is less and less left to know all the progress from Apple regarding AI. We’ll find out a lot at WWDC with iOS 18 as the highlight of the June 10 keynote.
In Applesfera | We finally know where Apple will apply the iPhone’s artificial intelligence: it will be with iOS 18 and in these four applications
In Applesfera | The artificial intelligence I want on my iPhone and Mac not only already exists, but was introduced by Apple itself
