Xiaomi has renewed its portfolio of foldable mobile phones, and this time it has not only launched a new generation of the Xiaomi Mix Fold, its book-type folding or “Fold”, but they have also revealed its first foldable clamshell smartphonethe Xiaomi Mix Flip, which comes to compete with mobile phones such as the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the OPPO Find N3 Flip.
The Mix Flip has many interesting and attractive features, including its powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, up to 1TB of storage, and the largest battery we’ve seen so far in a “Flip” mobile phone. However, the most promising thing about this mobile is everything it allows you to do once closed or folded.
A good folding mobile should be versatile both open and closed.
Over the years I have become a foldable mobile enthusiast. But even though many will probably think that I prefer the “Fold” type foldables, since they can transform into a sort of tablet with their large internal screen, in reality my favorite foldables are the Flip.
It’s because I find a lot more attractive and practical to have a standard size mobile phone that can be transformed into a more compact phonejust like the good old days. However, I also hope that manufacturers will allow me to do things like reply to WhatsApp messages, access Google Maps and even use Twitter from this small external screen.
Manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung allow you to use apps on the external display. The Galaxy Z Flip has limitations, but there are still ways to overcome this obstacle. The Moto Razr Ultra, on the other hand, allows you to use any app from the external display.
Xiaomi has now gone further and even allows you to make calls with your cell phone foldedthus offering the greatest versatility of use with both the mobile open and closed.
The external screen of the Xiaomi Mix Flip measures 4.01 inches, one of the largest currently available in “Flip” type foldables. As revealed by Xiaomi in its presentation, and as reported by Weibo, the Mix Flip allows you to use more than 200 applications from the external display
The Xiaomi Mix Flip has a speaker and microphone that allow you to make calls with the mobile when it is closed or folded, adding more possibilities of use to the “compact mode”.
The Xiaomi Mix Flip also allows you to send text messages and write in any app using a full keyboard QWERTY, similar to the one we use on the traditional screen of a non-foldable mobile phone.
However, as I have already mentioned, the most interesting thing is that the Xiaomi Mix Flip not only allows you to use widgets and complete applications from the external screen, but also to make calls as if the mobile phone were open, unfolded. This, thanks to the fact that it includes a slot with an independent speaker and microphone for calling with your mobile in compact mode
Being able to reply to messages, post a tweet, check how many stations are left before getting off the train and even watch a YouTube video without having to open the phone is a great advantage for the user. These are quick actions that we can easily perform from the external screen in a small space, but still comfortable. Xiaomi is now also adding more possibilities such as answering calls with the phone closed, and so foldables continue to improve and become more and more interesting devices.
