Kobo is based in Europe as one of the leading manufacturers of electronic books, and for a few weeks we were able to test one of its latest versions, the Kobo Clara 2E.
Fabián Gumucio (Kobo): “E-books are not at war with paper”
It is a compact ebook that will allow you to read your favorite e-books anywhere, since one of its main advantages is its great portability which will allow you to take it on a trip or use it to read on the way to work.
During these weeks I used it to read, mainly at home, and for what it costs, It is a very complete device. and which will satisfy the needs of book lovers.
Designed with recycled materials
Despite the fact that these types of devices usually don’t look great due to their design, it’s true that this Kobo Clara 2E does stand out to some degree, and that’s by his backwhich has a pattern of grooves that run through virtually the entire case.
These grooves leave a small gap at the top for the power button and brand logo. this button will also put the device to sleep,
The interesting thing is that this outer part was made from recycled materials and plastics found in the ocean, making it a more durable product.
In addition, it is waterproof, which it is always good to avoid negligence. It has an IPX8 resistance, which allows it to withstand immersion for up to an hour at a depth of up to 2 meters.
Compact, backlit display
This Kobo Clara 2E has a 6-inch E-Ink Carta 1200 HD display With which you will be able to read your favorite books in a very comfortable and ideal format to carry anywhere, whether it is every day going to work or even when you go on vacation.
the panel is backlit, so you can read day or night. In fact, this is one of the great advantages of ebooks, since their screen is perfect for reading under direct light, unlike what happens on smartphones.
The screen resolution is 1448 x 1072 pixels,
It is a panel with good resolution, despite the fact that it is not strictly necessary to enjoy a good reading experience, although it helps to better see the images of the books or PDFs you are reading.
Software with very interesting extras
This ebook contains the Kobo software, which divides the main screen of the device into four sections, these being the Home, My Books, Discover and more.
In the first, you’ll see a shortcut to the last book you read, along with your progress, a shortcut to all your books, as well as some recommended reading which you can download from the company store.
The My Books section displays your collection, being able to filter or classify it according to different parameters. In addition, you can access the catalog of authors, series or collections.
In contrast, in Discover, you will have access to the company store, where you can download both e-books and audiobooks. Whereas in More you will have a potpourri of very interesting options.
One of them is My Articles, through which you can sign in to Pocket to download the articles you want to read while offline.
There is even a section with options in beta which in the future can be added to the rest of the options.
Conclusions: a highly recommended device
We have been reading about this Kobo Clara 2E for a few weeks, and it must be said that thanks to its additional options it can bring you a lot of value, as is the case with its pocket compatibility, the service that allows you to save articles from the Internet to read them offline.
We tested it with its magnetic case which can be folded to become an ideal support for the device, and which will allow you to place it on the table in vertical format in an ideal posture for reading.
Its six-inch screen is just the right size to be completely comfortable when carrying it around, while still maintaining a fairly decent screen size that you can read on comfortably. In addition, it is quite thin and light.
Personally, I find this to be a great option if you’re not just looking to read, but also be able to view your pending items when you are offline, as well as access to an integrated online library where you can purchase new books without having to transfer them from computer to e-book.
Its screen is backlit so you have no trouble reading whether you’re in the sun or in the shade, and its e-ink is very comfortable for long hours of reading.
