The launch of the new iPhone 14 left a change in the sizes and names of the range: standard, Plus, Pro and Pro Max. It suited us well enough, but we could have seen a different name for the iPhone 14 Plus. And it’s not from rumours: Apple’s own website gives us clues about it.
From Max to Plus at some point in pregnancy
The first to find it were the people responsible for iCreate: in this Apple support document, the image of the iPhone 14 Plus is called “iPhone-14-max-colors”. You can verify this yourself by saving the image and checking the filename:
Another clue was in a section that documents compliance with European regulations (the design is quite old): in this one, and until recently, iPhone 14 Plus was listed as iPhone 14 Max
From this we can deduce that at some point the iPhone 14 Plus was dubbed iPhone 14 Max, and halfway through it was decided to change the name to iPhone 14 Plus
