And today we receive sad news about the use of AirTags to commit a crime. As reported USA todaya woman used an AirTag to track her boyfriend, then ran him over and killed him.
An AirTag had been used to track someone’s location before, but it never ended in such a serious crime
Indiana woman tracks down boyfriend using Apple AirTag device for alleged affair; then, after an argument, knocked him down and killed him.
A tragic crime with an AirTag as the protagonist
According to local authorities, Gaylyn Morris, 26, used an AirTag to track boyfriend Andre Smith, also 26, at an Indianapolis bar earlier this month. At the scene, Morris and Smith could be seen in a heated argument, with Morris threatening the other woman Smith was with with an empty bottle of wine, prompting the bar owner to ask them to leave the establishment.
That’s when Gaylyn Morris got in her car outside the bar and ran over Andre Smith, knocking him to the ground. After falling, Morris backed up and forward until she knocked her boyfriend to the ground for the first time. Morris then got out of the car and attempted to chase the other woman before being arrested by police.
Certainly a tragic story in which Apple AirTags have been used for a function for which they were not intended
AirTags were designed to help people locate their belongings, not to track someone else’s person or property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any misuse of our products.
we hope do not repeat this kind of situation so tragically in the future, AirTags are not devices for locating people, they are designed to locate objects.
