You know those fees you pay every month on your wireless phone bill alongside descriptions like Admin or Telco? If you subscribe to Verizon, you might get some of these back.
Verizon has settled a class action lawsuit over $100 million in administrative fees that will be paid to Verizon customers who “received postpaid wireless or data services from Verizon and were charged and paid an administrative fee.” between January 1, 2016 and November 8. , 2023.” This is basically anyone with a normal wireless plan.
However, there are still several steps before your check is mailed. Anyone receiving Verizon service during these dates can file a claim by April 15, 2024 on the Verizon Administrative Charges site. You will need your Notification ID and Confirmation Code, which you will see at the top of the email from the Verizon Class Action Administrator. If you have not received an email by January 16 (also check your spam), you can email the settlement administrator.
Under the terms of the settlement, Verizon does not admit any wrongdoing and will in fact continue to charge the fees in the future.
Payments are capped at $100 after an initial minimum allotment of $15 per account plus $1 for each month the account was debited and paid administrative fees and/or telecommunications administrative and recovery fees between dates payment, for a total of 95 months. All account holders must submit a claim by the deadline to receive payment.
Payments will be sent “once the settlement is approved and becomes final,” for a final hearing scheduled for March 22. However, it may still be years before checks reach customers. Apple settled its “Batterygate” lawsuit in 2020 and payments only started arriving this week.
