Apple is trying to make watchOS 10 much more independent of the iPhone. So far, an iPhone is required to be able to pair a new Apple Watch, even if you have a data connection. However, with the passage of updates, we see how the big apple wants to advance the independence of the Apple Watch. A step further has been taken with watchOS 10, which allows users to add credit and/or debit cards to Apple Pay directly from the watch, without the need to use our iPhone as an intermediary, as until now.
More independence in watchOS 10: add maps directly to the watch
Until watchOS 9 when we wanted to add a new card to Apple Pay and later to our Apple Watch, it was necessary to use the iPhone we paired the watch with. In this way, there was a link between the terminal and the clock, an additional element of security for the user. However, Apple realized that the watch face and the user itself are equally functional. and that gives them more and more independence.
In fact, watchOS 10 allows you to add maps directly to the Apple Watch from the Wallet app. This application now has a button called “Add card” with which we can easily follow the steps directly from our wrist: add card number, security code and expiration date. Also, if the bank account requires identification via text or phone call, everything can be done from the Apple Watch, without having to consult the iPhone at all.
This clearly shows the intentions to provide more functionality to watchOS, increasingly detaching itself from the iPhone as a unifying element. However, we cannot ignore that much of the reality of watchOS depends on the information that the iPhone offers, Therefore, in some places independence will make sense, but today we still need an iPhone for the proper functioning of the watch.
