watchOS 11

Yesterday was a day full of news in a speech lasting almost two hours where Apple focused on the presentation all your new operating systems in addition to a comprehensive deployment of AI innovations within what is called Apple Intelligence. In the case of watchOS 11, Apple wanted to move forward by launching a new application dedicated to managing user vital sign data, new ways to measure workouts, more customizable rings and improvements in design of the Fitness app. Afterwards We detail which generation of Apple Watch will be compatible with Apple’s next watchOS 11.

Which Apple Watch will be compatible with watchOS 11?

Last year we had among us, during WWDC23, the presentation of watchOS 10, the current and most recent version of watchOS. We were fortunate that much of the compatibility with watchOS 9 was maintained as it was compatible with all 4th generation Apple Watches, all SE models, and all generations of the Ultra model. However, We suspected that the change in cycle compared to the Apple Watch would arrive with watchOS 11. And so it was.

This is watchOS 11 and what Apple presented at WWDC

Thanks to Apple’s official website we can now access all the information relating to the operating systems presented yesterday at WWDC24, and specifically information about watchOS 11. And we can know which watches will be compatible with watchOS 11:

  • Apple Watch SE 2nd generation
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Series 9
  • Apple Watch Ultra
  • Apple Watch Ultra2

As you can see, Apple leaves behind the Series 4 and Series 5 in addition to the 1st generation of the SE model, which were previously compatible with watchOS 10. It may come as a surprise that the Series 4, with an S4 chip, and the Series 5, with an S5 chip, ceases to be compatible at the same time. However, remember that Although they may look like different chips, the S5 chip has the same processor as the S4, so in terms of power they have similar characteristics. Let’s also remember that watchOS 11 is functional as long as we have a watch compatible with the operating system and an iOS 18 compatible iPhone: these models superior to the iPhone XS (included).
