Mark Gurman Leaked iOS 18.1 Release Date for iPhone, Update with Apple Intelligence
One of the biggest iPhone updates in recent years is about to arrive. Apple plays a lot with iOS 18.1since this is the first version that will include Apple Intelligence, and the official release date has just been revealed. And, as we’ve already seen in our iOS 18 update release schedule, there’s very little left for that to happen.
Apple had been aiming to release iOS 18.1 sometime in October and Mark Gurman confirmed the company’s planned date. If nothing changes, Apple will launch iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence next Monday, October 28. This shouldn’t be the only update, we should also see iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 with Apple Intelligence, in addition to watchOS 11.1 and tvOS 18.1.
Apple plans an October 28 release for Apple Intelligence and iOS 18.1. The company has made it clear that Apple Intelligence will arrive in October as part of the iOS 18.1 operating system. But now I can provide a little more detail on the date of the month it’s supposed to arrive: Monday, October 28.
What Apple Intelligence will include in iOS 18.1
Gurman says Apple is taking its time to ensure major Apple Intelligence bugs are squashed and can support any new traffic on your AI cloud servers. It should be remembered that Apple’s AI will be launched in beta and with a waiting list, which could be longer when all users with a device compatible with Apple Intelligence want to access it.
We must also take into account that Apple Intelligence will not be complete in iOS 18.1. There are many features that Apple continues to develop from its AI that we only expect future updates to. That’s all Apple Intelligence did in iOS 18.1:
- writing tools– Users can rewrite, correct and summarize text almost anywhere they type, including Mail, Notes, Pages and third-party apps.
- New features for Siri:
- New design with a bright light that surrounds the edge of the screen when Siri is active.
- The ability to switch between text and voice for Siri interactions.
- Siri can now offer users assistance on their devices wherever they go and answer thousands of questions about how to do something on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
- Siri can track whether users stumble over words and maintain context from one query to the next.
- New features for Mail:
- A new section at the top of the inbox displays the most urgent emails, like a same-day dinner invitation or boarding pass.
- In a user’s inbox, instead of previewing the first few lines of each email, they can view summaries without opening a message.
- Smart Reply provides guidance for rapid response and will identify questions in an email to ensure all responses are answered.
- Reduce interruptions– A new approach that only displays notifications that might need immediate attention, such as text about an early daycare pickup.
- New features for photos:
- Natural language can be used to search for specific photos, such as “Maya skating in a tie-dye shirt” or “Katie with stickers on her face.”
- Video Search adds the ability to search for specific moments in clips so users can navigate directly to the relevant segment.
- Memories: Users can create the story they want to see by simply writing a description. Through understanding language and images, Apple Intelligence will choose the best photos and videos based on description, create a story with chapters based on themes identified in the photos, and organize them into a movie with its own narrative arc.
- Transcriptions: transcript summaries.
In addition, Apple Intelligence will be limited in its launch in the United States and in the English language. You can try Apple Intelligence on iPhone even if you’re not in the US, although it’s not highly recommended. Apple has confirmed that Apple Intelligence will soon arrive in more languages, so we hope that throughout 2025 the majority of users will be able to use it.
