We test the Motorola MA 1 with Android Auto without cables

We were telling you recently that Android Auto is a huge hit, many brands are using it and it’s because car buyers have been asking for it too. What we do not mention in this article is that the vast majority of brands use Android Auto via cable, which makes use not as comfortable as we would have liked.

However, there are companies specializing in creating products that convert this wired connection to a wireless connection, which means that the mobile can be carried in the pocket, in the bag or anywhere, because it is connected by Bluetooth.

Over the past few months, we’ve tested many devices that allow Android Auto wirelessly in any car that has that wired connection. From the Carsifi proposal, which required an application, to that of Ottocast, more reliable and sometimes much more complete, even allowing the installation of applications.

The Motorola MA1 doesn’t differ much from the devices we mentioned earlier. It is a device that connects via USB to the car and wirelessly with our phone.

It’s small and two stickers are included in the box in case we want to attach it to the dashboard. It is necessary because the cable it has is short and, as you can see in the images, it almost floats in front of the screen in my case.

This is a problem for me, and a buyer in my same situation will have to find an extensor of USB cable so you can leave it lower, or stick it to the side. I must admit that the position of the USB cable in this car is completely less logical.

I blame Motorola for the cable is not removable, being able to put a much longer one if it had been necessary, as it was the case. But no, the cable is built into the device, as is the case with Google Chromecasts, for example.

An almost magical connection

Considering the fact that connecting a mobile phone with Android Auto without a cable can be complex, as we have seen in the analysis of the Carsifi model, I must say that the pairing in the case of the Motorola MA1 was perfect. And very fast.

When we connect it, we just have to press the button on the side and watch the lower LED until it turns blue flashing. At that time we go to the mobile and search for a new Bluetooth device. When we find one with the name AndroidAutoXXXX where the letters X are several digits, we select it and match them.

At that time, the system will connect to the mobile via Bluetooth and then it will use a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection without us having to do anything.

The operation of this device is the same as we have seen in other brands, since the interface does not depend on the device, but belongs to Google.

Yes, we have seen that it is quite fast when it comes to connecting, and when it comes to reconnecting when we turn off the car and reconnect it.
