We tested the Infinite Battery Camera System with solar panels

One of the companies that offers the best surveillance cameras, without resorting to monthly payments, is eufy, the subsidiary of the famous Anker brand. This company has very cheap cameras that we can control from our phone, and we have analyzed some products.

But they also have high-end cameras, like the eufyCam 3 which was presented a few days ago and which we were able to test.

They are high-level cameras, equipped with advanced artificial intelligence, a data processing system without sending anything to the Internet, and solar charging that, de facto, have an unlimited battery.

Two cameras and one base

The sales pack of this product is composed of a pair of eufyCam 3 cameras and a Homebase 3 base, necessary to link the cameras. This base becomes the brain of the alarm system, although for now it is not compatible with other products of the firm, although the company has already announced that there will be a software update in the next few months that will allow this option.

This base is an evolution of the HomeBase 2 and launches the new BionicMind AI software, which makes it possible to recognize people by their face, to know which animals appear on the camera, etc.

As if that were not enough, it has 16 GB of internal memory and a slot to put a hard disk, which allows the possibility of having video recording for many years. This will, of course, depend on the capacity of the disk that we will put, which obviously does not come in the sales pack.

Next to the base are the two cameras, designed to be placed on the outside, for which they include a support, spikes and screws. The maximum resolution is 4K, and one thing we really liked is that the transmission of data to the base, and therefore to the mobile, is really fast and smooth, at least compared to previous models.

The installation is simple, although it is good to first connect the camera and place it in the area where we are going to drill, to check that the coverage is good before starting to drill holes.

Cameras can get wet, of course, and the sun is no problem. In fact, although we can charge it via USB C, the ideal is to put it in full light, so that the sun hits it directly.

The main claim of the eufyCam 3 is that they have solar panels which allow the battery to be charged automatically.

With a normal climate, with sun and clouds, the autonomy of the cameras could be sufficient to never have to recharge them. In Seville, in September, we saw an increase of about 2% in autonomy per day, taking into account that the cameras were working.

This implies that it would take an average of 50 days to fill the battery. Rounded, two months.

Knowing that the battery life promised by the brand is around 12 months, we can think that, barring a breakdown, we will never have to recharge these cameras.

As for the software, the new eufy base allows new functions, such as being able to put familiar faces and the type of relationship with the house, the warning that they are trying to steal a camera (by motion detection), etc.

In the section of each camera in the settings we can modify parameters such as it only detects an area of ​​​​the field of view, that it illuminates the environment with the integrated LED, we can speak through the camera, etc

En cuanto al software la única pega que vemos es que la nueva base no es compatible con las cámaras anteriores a las comercializadas ahora, y eso es algo que debería haberse previsto antes de anunciar el nuevo pack de venta.

Con todo, esperamos que la promesa de la empresa de que habrá retrocompatibilidad sea real. Mientras tanto, podemos gestionar varias bases desde una sola aplicación.

Un sistema robusto y completo

El precio de este producto no es bajo, pero es el esperado, sobre todo si lo comparamos con sistemas similares de marcas como Ring. Además, incluyen carga solar, lo que es realmente útil en muchos escenarios.

Que interese o no ya depende de lo que busquemos, pero la promesa de eufy de no obligar a pagar mensualmente para tener todas las funciones desde luego es algo a tener en cuenta.
