Although the app store is on its way to 12 years, there are certain types of apps that don't leave your site. It is a form of public transport applications. The remainder of the remainder are integrated and with many functions such as Citymapper, some applications are not usually up to par.
In recent weeks I've been exploring MoveMAD. It's important to know what bus stops you have near you, and when to wait. That is, its functionality is inseparable from the tens that will be there. However, what sets it apart from other public transportation apps Not that, but how.
Travel around Madrid via MoveMAD
When you first launch the app, you can see that you're facing something different. The resources I have tried so far are characterized by three things: the first screen where you have to enter the stop number, the advertising presence and its slow pace.
MovMAD fixes all of these weaknesses in a vague way. Upon opening, the user receives a modern app, namely embrace black mode. A live map is all behind the screen. We can go through everything we want, to zoom in or out to zoom in.
By default, it will open with our downtown location, but we can remove the view in any way. Here we have to say that Use Apple Maps, in Madrid they had a train and buses suspended.
Al rotate the map or zoom in, new bus stops will appear and some will disappear. If you click on one of these red anchors, the stop number will only appear in the "box" displayed in the application. To know the lines passing through that area and the waiting time for the next bus, simply press the blue button.
Here we will see all buses are on the way and its times, as well as the number of suspensions and possible markings. By doing so, it will be kept in the list of favorite stops where we will get a history of the queries we made.
All the while, I find how much MoveMAD works. The map allows you to get the orientation you need there is no need to know the configuration number in advance, as in other basic applications. In addition, the map is fluid and shows only the most important information.
But more prominent than the other options is its speed. The application is very fast in all respects. An important factor in the experience of these types of applications.
That said, yes I missed two things: power give my favorite name and have a button that wipes the keyboard that appears when looking for a stop. A small improvement we will see in the future.
We chat with Adolfo Vera, the developer behind MovMAD
We had a chance to chat briefly with Adolfo Vera, the developer behind MoveMAD. Adolfo told us more details about your app, its origins and its immediate future.
Eduardo Archanco: Why did you decide to create an app like MoveMAD?
Adolfo Vera: Well, the app is from afar, 2016 where I introduced myself to a hackathon EMT's Mobility Labs and app, then called Mad @ Bus, came in second place. Over the past few months EMT has updated the API, and this, coupled with the release of SwiftUI and Combine (Apple's new frameworks) has given me an idea of the redesign from top to bottom and in particular inside the application
EA: MovMAD has the map as its central object, and some applications use a stop finder. What made you decide?
AV: Ideally because of what you said, all the apps work with a text field to enter a configuration number, so I've decided that when re-editing MovMAD it should be different. And by giving the user speed. In one view you can set up a stop near you or write a code for the one in your area.
EA: Overall, the public transit apps I have tried are extremely violent. MovMAD, on the other hand, is fluid, accurate and fast. What creates an app to make it so unique?
AV: Almost all of these details are for Apple developers. The app uses 100% SwiftUI for this component visual and extracted data from EMT using Combine, which were found to be the two cucumber, it's amazing how much time they save when they write the interface (SwiftUI) and the speed they provide when they do a data ETL (Merge).
EA: Also, while some apps of this type rely on advertising to support their work, your app is free without it. Do you plan to include any payment or advertising feature?
AV: No, the fact is that I don't think about it, in the first place because it's data from a public service provided by a public company, EMT, that doesn't charge one euro for designers for exploiting its platform. I don't want to say any more that it is apps that offer advertising it's bad at all, only I don't choose it. In the end, on the subject of beauty: it doesn't look good.
EA: And finally, a few questions about new features. Are you going to add alternatives for future trips (metro, BiciMad, carsharing, etc.)? Will we see other cities added?
AV: The next version will come with BiciMAD data and the back of the other version is for EMT Parks. Other cities? Why not In addition to the future version of watchOS.
