I know, I’m a daredevil. From iPhone 4 to my current iPhone 15 Pro Max, I almost never used a cover. I could count on one hand the number of times I’ve worn it, because I choose these occasions very well, as I’ll tell you later.
Call it luck, being careful, or being a little clumsy, but I’ve never had to repair an iPhone because it was broken. Yes, I had scratches on the screen, and in particular a problem with the iPhone 12 Pro and its silver color. So it was one of the models that I liked the most. I put him undercover, even if it was for a few days.
Now I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and use it without a case, although that hasn’t always been the case
From the same day as the iPhone 15 Pro Max launch, I had it in my hands and in my pocket without a cover. The new titanium material promised to be stronger and What could be less than putting it to the test on a daily basis?. Today, six months later, I have clear conclusions.
I have to say that, although I don’t use a cover, I have a thin braided cover for my same model. I bought it thinking it would be less delicate than the previous ones in leather and it turned out to be quite the opposite. After a week with the cover, its condition was pretty bad. So if, I have the case in the drawer and paradoxically I take better care of it than the iPhone.
I recognize that all iPhone models have been resilienteven if they contain dangerous and fragile materials at the same time. The iPhone 4 had a glass back, and starting with the iPhone X, this design returned. Maybe iPhones The most durable I had was the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 7 by having an entirely aluminum body.
The transition to steel iPhone X, and especially after the redesign with the iPhone 12, didn’t pair very well with the iPhone. At least in silver colors. In my case, the iPhone X and iPhone 12 Pro I bought them in silver and the shiny edges lasted a few months.
After this time, they became scratched and matte, as has historically happened with Apple products made from this material. Also a very good example is iPods which had a glossy finish.. Now with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, I think we have the best material of all. And despite rumors that the color was fading, my iPhone in blue is like the first day.
How you use your iPhone determines whether you need a case or not.
I worked in Apple stores and always I was surprised by the number of iPhones arriving broken, and also in a very serious way: bent over, with broken glass… I understand a stupid fall, but many models looked like they had been crushed by a tank. Seeing this, I have always recommended my customers to buy a good suitcase. However, then they looked at me and I wasn’t having any. And it’s a personal thing, and I think we all have a friend who always drops their iPhone. Hands, pocket… I don’t know if I will be an extremely strange personbut I never let him down.
And I don’t do anything special either. Simply I always have it in the right pocket of my jeans., without attaching it to anything else and with the screen facing inwards. Then if I leave it on a table, I place it screen side up, obviously avoiding the edges and corners.
My lifestyle is calm, I work in an office, I go to the gym, I walk on the street… A normal and simple life. I don’t go out to party, I don’t go mountaineering. There are many riskier jobs or activities that I would definitely take coverage for.
I only put a blanket on it once. When I go on a trip, I put a case on my iPhone as a preventative measure.. After all, you have the iPhone in your hand for much longer and you are in an unfamiliar environment. A trip and goodbye iPhone. In this case, all cases work for me, in general I have a standard one either from Amazon, AliExpress… I don’t need to spend $60 on an Apple case for four days I am away from home. What I want is for it to protect me in the event of a possible impact.
No case, tempered glass… depending
It has already become clear that I am part of the no-cover team. And what about tempered glass? Well, there I had two rules. I went many years without using it, but on this iPhone 15 Pro Max I put it. Plus, I got crystals of all kinds. From good brands like Belkin or Panzerglass, to the cheapest on AliExpress at 0.90 dollars.
That would be for another article., because yes, I thought there was no difference between cheap and expensive glass, after working at an Apple distributor and after trying and negotiating with dozens of brands. But to my great surprise, There is a barrier in which there is a difference between one glass and another. The bottom line is that I now have a very good tempered glass for the iPhone, and I wouldn’t take it away for anything.
This is a personal opinion, don’t try it at home.
Must be aware of each person’s history. For my partner, for example, I wouldn’t even think of leaving him without a blanket for a day. However, I’m not afraid of any of them and I enjoy my device much more. It is lighter, comfortable to hold And in the case of silicone cases, the lint in my pocket doesn’t drag me around. The choice of cover or material is also very personal.
I recognize that Apple’s transparent cases seem to me to be the best option. Then there are other brands like Spigen or Elago which have very good alternatives and which I personally recommend. Six months later, My iPhone 15 Pro Max is intact, no scratches or discoloration. Titanium is very durable And I also consider that the rear window is very hard. Regarding the cameras, They are reinforced with sapphire crystal so apart from a very strong impact, I am also very calm.
Now you can leave your comment to know if you use a blanket on a daily basis, or you’re like me and have never used it. What has been said is a personal opinion and an experience that I had, far from being a recommendation. I’ve probably been lucky all these years and I hope to continue to be lucky.
