In the past WWDC, Apple announced its new service called iCloud + come with iOS 15. In fact, more than completely new, it’s an extension of an existing one. Built on the basis of iCloud, iCloud + brings a number of additional features included in the subscriptions. Let’s see what it consists of.
iCloud + and the three additional features for users
So far we’ve used iCloud for things as common as save our photos, documents and notes in the cloud. Synchronize between devices and allow you to work on multiple of them. It also logs our health data, Game Center, messages, and backups, among others.
Now, iCloud is renamed to iCloud + and adds three new functions for users who subscribe to any of its plans. The first of them It is called Relais Privé or Relais Privé, is a kind of Apple VPN for Safari. With it, we make sure that all the traffic we send from our device is encrypted.
At the same time, it uses two independent internet relays so that no one can track our location, IP address and network activity. With him, our activity is anonymized (against public Wi-Fi networks, Internet service providers and other network users) and profiling by advertisers and websites is avoided. This feature is still in beta, but early results from Private Relay indicate that browsing is sometimes slower and faster than normal at other times.
The second additional feature of iCloud + is Hide my email. With it, we can create random email addresses to sign up for new sites, web services or newsletters. When an email arrives at this address, it will automatically be forwarded to your real address. And if you no longer wish to receive these emails, just remove the random account from the settings to cut off this communication.
Private Relay and Hide my email are features that can be turned off from settings if you are not interested
These two features are part of the latest installment in the evolution of Apple’s privacy measures. The third and last function does not belong to this field, but it brings a certain value of interest. It is Extended support for HomeKit compatible surveillance cameras. It is now possible to have an unlimited number connected to HomeKit and record, although this depends on our monthly iCloud + plan.
ICloud + price remains as before
iCloud + is a subscription service which adds space and additional functions to users. In its previous version, iCloud’s monthly prices were as follows:
- 50 GB of iCloud space, without HomeKit cameras for 0.99 dollars per month.
- 200 GB of iCloud space, 1 HomeKit camera for 2.99 dollars per month.
- 2 TB of iCloud space, 5 HomeKit cameras for 9.99 dollars per month.
The iCloud + tariffs they remain identical to the previous one, adding the functions we spoke about. The diagram looks like this:
- 50 GB of iCloud space, 1 HomeKit camera, Private Relay and Hide email for 0.99 dollars per month.
- 200 GB of iCloud space, 5 HomeKit cameras, Private Relay and Hide email for 2.99 dollars per month.
- 2 TB of iCloud space, infinite HomeKit cameras, Private Relay and Hide email for 9.99 dollars per month.
Apple One prices follow the same pattern, stay the same as before. In the end, Apple therefore adds features to those that previously paid for iCloud and maintains the service now called iCloud +.
