When we think of an Apple event, we always think of Apple Park in California and the Steve Jobs Theater. Here it is where the most majestic events take placelike the next WWDC and even the future iPhone 16.
The Let Loose event, during which we will surely discover the new iPad models, promises to be very different. In fact, Apple has already classified it as an event that will be out of the ordinary. At Applesfera we can attest to this, since Our colleague Pedro Aznar is traveling to London to see new products first-hand.
In London there is a very special European Apple Park with almost a century of history
As we know well, the Apple Park is the greatest representative of modernity. These were offices created from scratch by and for Apple employees. On the other hand, we also know that Apple adapts historic buildings like no one else for the new Apple Store. We have many examples of this, such as the Apple Store Tower Theater in Los Angeles.
London has traditionally always welcomed Second Apple Offices by Level of Importance. Europe is a very important territory for them and everything cannot be centralized in the United States.
Until recently, Apple’s offices there were normal. In fact, a lot of the work was done from Cork, Ireland. Apple’s plans were increase its presence and employees in the British capital and the result is majestic.
It was the cover of a Pink Floyd album, and today it’s the Apple offices
We are talking about Battersea Power Station, a former coal-fired power station which provided electricity to much of the city between 1939 and the late 1980s. the largest brick building in Europe, and its dimensions are massive, both in width, length and height. Its four chimneys are emblematic and measure 109 meters high.
Pink Floyd used it as the cover of their album Animals. and also appeared in the film Help! with the Beatles. However, as the city of London grew, this power station was no longer so far from the urban core. Since the end of the 80s until the 2010s, the factory was abandoned and underwent various attempts at regeneration. The ideas were very diverse, ranging from the creation of a amusement park until he becomes the new Chelsea stadium.
Finally, In 2016, Apple announced plans to open a new headquarters in the United Kingdom. at Battersea Power Station in London. These offices could accommodate one thousand four hundred employees and would have six floors. This way it would be the primary use of the building. THE The architects chosen were Foster and Partners (the same ones who built Apple Park) and the cost would be 75 million pounds.
Let’s go inside Battersea Power Station
London is my second home for me. I have seen how dramatically the Battersea area has changed in just a few years, and today It is a reference district for Londoners. Pedro Aznar is going to have the chance and honor to experience the launch of the Let Loose event within these brick walls, and I want to tell you more about Battersea.
It was inaugurated in 2023 and is a building of colossal dimensions which can only be truly appreciated when you are there in person. The offices of Apple is right in the center of the building, which in turn is a shopping center. Actually, This shopping center has a very recent Apple Store also, with only one year of life.
Although Apple offices have security, you can rest assured while having a coffee while you look at the reception and how employees come and go. As you can imagine, every detail is carefully thought out, from the door handles to the elevators.
It’s a shame there isn’t a visitor center like at Apple Park, although the entire shopping center is jointly developed with Appleso every walk through its areas will make you fall in love.
Once you get out you have a good Esplanade with lawn and views of the Thames. In fact, you can take a boat back to central London, or of course also the underground, as it has a station with the same name as the building.
My advice is if you are going to visit London at some point in your life, you will love Battersea Power Station. It will only take you a few minutes by tube from central London and you can see from the Apple offices shopping, dining, having drinks… It’s an incredible area, even for sitting in its parks who to have around the plant.
