The receiving device (the Mac) must have macOS Monterrey. Keep in mind that the visual quality with AirPlay may depend on the year of your Mac.
2. Make sure “AirPlay to Mac” is enabled
If you now have macOS Monterrey, you need to verify on your Mac that everything is in order:

- Now click on To share.
- Check it out AirPlay Receiver is marked.
3. Set good AirPlay visibility on Mac
Now that we know where to activate AirPlay on the Mac, you have three settings available:
- Current user: This option is for people who just want AirPlay to work with their Apple devices that have the same Apple ID as the Mac.
- Anyone on the same network: This option will allow your family or friends to use AirPlay on your Mac as long as they use the same Wi-Fi network as the Mac.
- Everyone: By enabling this option, everyone nearby will see your Mac as a possible AirPlay receiver.
Keep in mind that in one of the three options, the owner of the Mac has the last word be able to accept or reject devices that attempt to use AirPlay.
4. Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned on
It is probably one of the most common mistakes but it might be the reason why you can’t see your Mac.As we said before, the device sending the signal and the Mac must be in the misma Wi-Fi.
Likewise, it checks on both devices that the Bluetooth is activated.
What to do without always seeing AirPlay?
If even with all this you continue without seeing the AirPlay option to the Mac on your device, you may need to do one of the following:
- Deactivate the password AirPlay in the System Preferences> Sharing> AirPlay Receiver menu by unchecking the “Password required” tab.
- When you try to connect a device to the Mac with AirPlay, a pop-up window in the computer at the top right where you have to click on “OK”. This window only lasts a few seconds so if it disappears send a new request.
- keep all nearby devices. It doesn’t mean that they are a few inches apart, but try to be in the same room.
- One of the last things you should try is reboot devices and the Wi-Fi router.
- Have all your devices update to the latest possible version.
- Turn it off firewall in System Preferences> Security & Privacy> Firewall. Make sure the Block incoming connections option is not checked.
