Apple continues to work hard on its iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 betas. Next week, with the iPhone 16 event in sight, the iOS 18 Release Candidate will be launched and the countdown will begin for the official release of the new operating systems worldwide. However, iOS 18.1 will have to wait a little longer as it will be released in October or November. It will mainly highlight Apple’s incorporation Intelligence whose functions we have already been able to test in beta version. But, What new options and features can you expect in iOS 18.1 besides Apple Intelligence?

Features we expect in iOS 18.1 this fall-winter

Apple is a mystery on many occasions, but when it comes to dates, it has been behaving the same way for years. And the machinery of dates in terms of releases, betas and event calls is almost more than studied, and the rumors are almost always right. On this occasion, Apple has already warned us that iOS 18.1 will arrive around October, a month after the official launch of its new operating systems. And although the main new feature of this superb update is Apple Intelligence, Apple also has other features to add to iOS 18.1:

  • New messaging app: One of the most significant redesigns that Apple showed us at WWDC24 was the native Mail app. It’s a big change in design, but more importantly, it’s a change in the way we organize our email account with the integration of categories. If we look at Apple’s official website, the new Mail app will arrive at the end of this year and will probably arrive in iOS 18.1

  • Genmoji: Another of the fundamental pillars of the Apple Intelligence ecosystem, and one that was heavily influenced during WWDC24, are Genmojis: personalized emojis made with AI that are created by and for the user. We will probably also see it in this future update since the iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 code contains a ton of references to this feature.
  • ChatGPT Integration: For now, the iOS 18.1 betas have not shown anything about this feature, although it is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated by all users. It is the integration of OpenAI’s AI, ChatGPT, into the entire iOS iPadOS ecosystem. While rumors are now circulating that Apple is likely to join the investment in AI with OpenAI, it is very possible that the chatbot integration will also arrive in iOS 18.1.
  • European regulations with browsers Web: We have also spoken to you about this point on other occasions. The Digital Markets Act requires Apple to display a new window in which the user is forced to choose a default web browser. This window will appear once a year and with each purchase of a new device. This is a regulation that forced Apple to introduce iOS 18.1, so it is likely that it is also new.
