The Apple product legal warranty This changes depending on what country you are in, but it is always something that consumers take into account when purchasing our products and can lead to changes in this process. In addition, we have to differentiate between what the basic Apple warranty offers us (which respects Spanish regulations) and what the extended and optional AppleCare warranty offers us. Let’s review.
First year warranty for Apple, second year for seller
The law in Europe is clear: today, for the moment, the products have two years warranty. Apple interprets this law so that, respecting it, the first year of warranty is the responsibility of the company itself and the second is the responsibility of the selling company.
That is: If you purchased your iPhone from an Apple Store, Apple should be responsible for the product warranty for two years from the date of purchase. If you bought the iPhone from an authorized reseller, for example, Apple takes care of the first year of warranty and the authorized reseller takes care of the second year. If you purchased your iPhone from Apple’s official online store, the company may refer you to an authorized service for assistance (if you don’t have an Apple Store nearby), but the costs are also borne by Tim Cook.
The AppleCare Advantage: 3-Year Priority Support Guarantee
What are the advantages of AppleCare compared to the minimum legal warranty of two years? Several, but the best known is a three-year Apple warranty that also covers a limited amount of accidental damage at discounted price. In addition, there is also special coverage for battery repair and priority access to Apple’s 24-hour technical service.
In other words, this is Apple offering you take care of your device for three years, no matter who sold it to you. So for Apple it’s a two-year extension of its official warranty, and for the customer it’s an additional one-year extension of the basic legal warranty. You can have AppleCare on Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, monitors, headphones, Apple TV, HomePods, and even iPod touch.
Apple may promote or offer this extended warranty to you at the time of purchase of the product, but it should be clear that it’s completely optional.
Please note: changes are coming in the near future
So far we have explained how the Apple warranty works from today, but we have to remember that Europe will extend the legal warranty of the products you buy from two to three years. This will leave AppleCare’s extended warranties a less attractive service and lead Apple to make changes to address it.
What changes can they be? good It depends on the decision taken by the Cupertino offices. Apple could keep AppleCare’s price but increase coverage for longer, or it could keep it but lower its price and promote breakage coverage and priority care. We could also see an increase in the general price of Apple products if it is decided that we will be the users who bear the costs of this additional third year of Apple warranty.
Of course, we will inform you of any changes that Apple decides to make once this new Spanish three-year warranty goes into effect.
