What would an iPhone be without a notch

Apple, iPhone, iPhone 13, iPhone 2021, iphone sin notch, notch

As for notch iPhone is concerned, there is a lot of disagreement in the Apple community: some believe that the notch at the top of the screen is ugly and they want to remove it from the screen of the smartphone, while others celebrate that it is a distinctive feature of the iPhone (similar to the home button). Others got used to it or never really cared.

Beyond public opinion, it appears that Apple is exploring ways to make the notch or to eliminate it once and for all. With the 2021 iPhones launching in the fall, they are expected to arrive with a notch smaller.

This rumor has been circulating for a long time, since the Ice Universe leaker published, in October 2020, a “leaked” graphic on Twitter which shows a notch thinner. More reports and leaks followed, and famous Apple leaker Jon Prosser confirmed that the notch iPhone 13 (if that’s the name of the 2021 iPhone) it will be smaller.

However, there are also rumors that Apple will launch at least one notch-less model in the market in 2022. The iPhone 14 Pro (the successor to the iPhone 13 Pro or the iPhone 12s Pro from 2022) , according to TF International Securities analyst Ming – Chi Kuo will have a “hole-in-the-screen design”.

What will be the impact of this design without notch towards the future of the iPhone?

No notch: what about Face ID?

If so, in Apple’s plans remove the notch, the question that comes to my mind is: where are they going to place the Face ID sensors?

Face ID projects over 30,000 infrared points on the face to create a depth projection and 2D infrared image.

“Then these images are converted into a mathematical value which is stored in a specially protected area of the iPhone,” says Apple. “Every time you use Face ID, your face is converted to a mathematical value and compared to the benchmark value stored in the iPhone. If the two values are the same, the iPhone is unlocked. And just as your fingerprint cannot be reconstructed from the Touch ID benchmark, you cannot reconstruct your face from the Face ID benchmark ”.

All of this technology has to be stored somewhere.

Touch ID under the screen, retractable front cameras with facial recognition and even facial recognition under the screen – the competition has already shown that there are alternatives, although those options are not as secure as Apple’s Face ID.

Even Apple recognizes that Face ID isn’t everything – the current iPad Air has Touch ID built into the power button.

What an iPhone without a notch would look like

Apple is highly unlikely to give up Face ID and downgrade to an inferior method. Facial recognition will probably only be replaced if Apple develops an alternative that is at least as secure and convenient at the same time, such as under-screen fingerprint recognition. But does an iPhone with Face ID need a notch?

An iOS developer posted three different design options on his Twitter account. These show an iPhone that still includes Face ID, but without notch.

Its concept images show how Apple could use the “hole design” suggested by Kuo. Although, in this case, the “hole” becomes “holes”. The front camera with Face ID sensors would no longer be hidden in the notchInstead, it would appear as three little black dots on the screen.

These could be distributed in several different ways: either horizontally (as is currently the case with the notch) or in the shape of a triangle. A third option shows Face ID below the screen.

Decide if this design is better than the current one with the notch It’s a question of taste. In our case, we prefer to continue with the notch than having three “holes” in the screen.
