WhatsApp if you are a little distinguished

distinguished, WhatsApp

If you’ve been thinking for a few days that WhatsApp is the same, but a bit different, it’s not your imagination. The app has started to implement a bit of Material You in its interface and as a result slightly changes the appearance of some elements of its interface.

The most obvious change you will find in app tabs, whose texts are now displayed in lowercase after all these years in uppercase. Diving into the app a bit, we can see that other interface elements have been updated with new designs.

A little tiny in your WhatsApp

Some apps go for drastic redesigns every few years and others, like WhatsApp, go renew its interface little by little over time so that you hardly notice it, unless you pay attention to it. The app is much the same today as it was ten years ago, but almost without us noticing it has changed its chat bubbles or changed the color tones.

Along the same lines, we have a noticeable, yet subtle, new change that will make us think there is something different, but at the same time, we may not be quite sure what has exactly changed. These are the eyelashes, of which names are already lowercase in beta of the candidacy. If they haven’t appeared yet, get used to the idea because the design will eventually hit everyone.

Although a subtle change, it is in keeping with the new design lines of Material Design 3 (also known as Material You), where elements like buttons opt for lowercase instead of uppercase like in previous versions.

It looks like WhatsApp engineers are adding brush strokes of Material Design 3 in the app whose design, especially in some sections, something was already obsolete. A good example is the About screen, where you can see the version of WhatsApp.

On this screen, the very old underlined text button has become a more modern rounded (and tiny) button. It is foreseeable that this type of styles will eventually reach the entire application, although if we have learned anything on previous occasions it is that they will do it little by little, without us even realize it.
