The changes to the General Telecommunications Act have been of no use to me. In fact, I am receiving even more spam calls than before, to the point that I don’t even care about them anymore. answer calls from unknown numbers.
Of course, later I always wonder if it could be an important call. Before, I would look up the number on the Internet, just in case, but now I have found an easier way to find it. If the unknown call is spam or scam: with WhatsApp.
WhatsApp as caller ID
One of the great aspirations of humanity is to know who is calling you without having to answer. In my case, because I don’t want to answer the phone at the entrance, but even less if the caller is a scammer or a salesman trying to sell me something. No thanks. For this, there are all kinds of caller IDs in app or web page mode. What I didn’t expect was to end up using WhatsApp.
Whatever the legislation, I keep getting unwanted calls. I hope a few a week. With bad luck, over and over again in the same day until I block all the different numbers that call me. Google Phone’s spam filter blocks some of these attempts, but not all.
I rarely answer the phone, but just in case I get used to it check unknown number to see if it was a known scammer. However, lately, Googling the number has not given me any results. Apparently, scammers change phones so quickly that no one has time to report them on websites like ListaSpam.
Instead, I found it much more useful search number on whatsapp. Scammers seem to like WhatsApp because it is easier to “infiltrate” with a text message than with voice. It requires fewer resources and the same scammer can organize multiple attempts at the same time in an automated way. It’s perfect.
So I realized that the The vast majority of spam numbers that call me have a WhatsApp profilewhich can now be verified very easily, since WhatsApp allows us to start a conversation with strangers by simply searching for the number in the section to write a new message.
If the phone number is a landline and has a WhatsApp profile, it’s a bad sign, especially if it is a professional account with a random name as personal names. Scammers love to create business accounts that pretend to be personal accounts or a fake recruitment company. If Pepito Garcia Enterprises calls me and I have nothing to do with Pepito Garcia Enterprises, I’m pretty sure it’s spam, a scam, or at least something I’m not interested in.
I noticed that the amount of calls from strangers who have profiles on WhatsApp They have grown a lot, being more the norm than the exception and making it easier for me to make the decision whether or not to block the number to avoid calls in the future.
Additionally, this has the advantage that if I find signs that it is a scam or spam, I can block number on whatsapp and google phone. By the way, I am reporting the company on WhatsApp as a precaution.
