We continue to find out what news awaits us in future WhatsApp updates, thanks to WaBetaInfo. This time, it’s about two enhancement features previously released– Group video calls and fingerprint protection.
For video calls, WhatsApp works in a way that lets you joined a missed video call, as long as it continues, while chat protection prepares for generalization: it will also accept other types of biometrics available, such as face recognition.
Join missed calls
On WhatsApp, if someone calls you and you do not answer on time, it happens the same as for normal calls: you will be sent a notification that you have a missed call. This changes slightly to group calls: even if you do not respond, the call may continue with other participants.
This is where the youth of WhatsApp comes in. you can join later the next time you open the app and as long as the call is still in progress, that’s fine.
Support facial recognition
Another upcoming change in WhatsApp is related to biometrics. WhatsApp for iOS is ready to protect conversations with Face ID face recognition, on Android WhatsApp is only mentioned via finger protection.
This is what will change soon, allowing the protection of the negotiations to pass fingerprints, facial recognition or “other unique identifiers”. We’ll have to wait and see, though, it should be terminals with secure face recognition with special sensors.
