This has probably happened to you before: you’re going to join a video call but you notice that the room you’re in is very messy, or maybe you just don’t want the place where you’ll be participating in the call is seen. In most cases you will use a special filter or background, but this is not possible in WhatsApp.
Or at least, that wasn’t the case, since the platform just incorporate different filters and backgrounds for video calls. Users will have many options when participating in a video call, from fun and quirky filters to cleaner, more professional backgrounds.
WhatsApp implements one of the most awaited functions: filters and backgrounds for video calls
Backgrounds for video calls are not something new, many of us have already been using them for some time on platforms like Google Meet or Zoom, for example. But given that WhatsApp is an application that more than 2 billion people around the world use to communicate, we were undoubtedly surprised to be able to use this function in our WhatsApp video calls.
The platform added a total of 10 filters and 10 backgrounds to use in video calls:
- Filters for video calls: Warm, Cold, Black and white, Light leak, Dreamy, Prismatic light, Fisheye, Retro TV, Frosted glass, Duo tone
- Backgrounds for video calls: Blur, Living room, Office, Cafe, Pebbles, Gourmet, Softness, Beach, Sunset, Festivity, Forest
In general, filters allow us to add an effect to our face and what the camera sees, while backgrounds remove the background behind us to add artificial decoration, including options such as blur the background, the appearance of an office, a cafeteria or even a sunset, among others. During our tests when the function arrived in the beta version of WhatsApp, we were able to verify that This function offers very good results
To use filters and backgrounds, you must Click on the “magic wand” button that appears on our camera image during a video call, then choose the effect we want to apply.
Finally, WhatsApp has also added some tools to improve the image quality of our video calls: retouching and low lightwhich allow our image during the call to be better, for example by improving the brightness of our environment.
The new filters and backgrounds for WhatsApp video calls have already started reaching app users. This is a rolling update, which means it will reach all users in the coming days and weeks, so if you don’t see the new filters on your WhatsApp, don’t despair, these new tools will soon be at your disposal.
