The idea of a cheap folding mobile hasn’t materialized yet, but it’s close. Although more advanced models like the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 are out of reach for most, cheaper alternatives are gradually appearing.

The one that perhaps surprised us the most was the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, the second generation of the Xiaomi foldable that hit the table by offering a thinner, lighter and above all cheaper design than Samsung’s.
Xiaomi’s cheap folding will arrive in Europe
Unfortunately, and like the other models of the brand, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 was initially launched only in China; the good news is that it won’t stay there and the company has confirmed that it will launch in Europe.
In an interview at OmicronFabio Arena, product marketing manager for Xiaomi Europe, said the company is working to bring its foldables to Europe, after the “great acceptance” they’ve had in China.

Although Arena was unable to give a specific date, he said the goal was for foldables to arrived at the end of the year in Europe; the key to achieving this lies in the excellent sales of Xiaomi and the fan community.
Specifically, Arena talks about the Mix Fold 2 and its innovations, confirming that this is the model they intend to bring to Europe. And that makes sense, because it’s the most interesting of the folding models launched last year.
The Mix Fold 2 is a foldable in the style of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. In other words, it has two screens: a modular interior and a classic exterior. Therefore, its great advantage is to be able to open the device and obtain more space on the screen (8.02 inches specifically) to better use our applications.

Despite these similarities, the Mix Fold 2 was launched at a much lower price, 8,999 yuan (1,290 dollars), than the Samsung model (1,799 dollars). To achieve this, Xiaomi has made some sacrifices. For example, the hinge design is much simpler and doesn’t allow you to hold the phone half open like the Galaxy Fold 4 can; Moreover, this also implies that it does not have IPX8 splash resistance. Even so, these are sacrifices that have not counted for many users, and therefore their success.
We don’t know at what price the Mix Fold 2 will arrive in Europe, but we hope it will be cheaper than the Galaxy Fold; although it must also be said that important news is expected for the Galaxy Fold 5 which is expected for this summer.
