We have to go back to CES 2023 in January, where Google showed the Android Auto Coolwalk interface with all its new features. The interface has been taken up a notch to compete head-to-head with Apple Carplay’s multi-window mode, but there were things left to do, such as the time it took to fully roll out or some functions not are only going to reach (by now) certain determined telephones. East the case of WhatsApp calls in Android Auto
Thus, with this new version of Android Auto, it is possible to make and receive WhatsApp calls as long as you have a Google Pixel and Samsung phone. It is to be hoped that this useful function will reach other brands, but it will be time to wait longer. After all, there are several players involved: Google and its operating system, the application and the various manufacturers.
These are the phones compatible with WhatsApp calls on Android Auto
With Android Auto Coolway fully rolled out, WhatsApp version 2.23.9.75 (from May) is the one that added support for Google Pixel and Samsung phones, but which ones? officially there is no complete list of models compatible with WhatsApp calls on Android Auto.
So we asked Google, WhatsApp and Samsung to provide us with a full list. So far, only the Mountain View-based company has clarified this: those with Android version 11 and later. It is therefore not a premium function exclusive to high-end models, but to the most recent mobiles (and those that have been updated to Android 11, in the case of Samsung the list is long).
Considering that the launch of Android 11 is in September 2020 and based on Google’s response, we can expect that all Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy launched from 2021 integrate it.
