Apple has been able to adapt to new times to be the company it is today. Still, there are things that don’t change. The guys from Cupertino have included Apple stickers on their devices since 1990, being a detail that customers constantly notice, arguing for various reasons. But, there is only one reason for this tradition.
From the YouTube channel, Apple Explained tells us that the popular Apple Stickers are the result of a strategy that sought to retain the Mac user base, through a truly distinctive signature detail, like its popular logo. In the early years, many users responded to the initiative by sharing the decals even on their cars.
Apple products don’t come alone
In the 1990s, users wore these stickers to support the bankrupt company, which was in competition with industry leaders like IBM. However, over the years the intention when using the sticker has changed. And since the 2000s, it has been used to support the innovative company that created the most popular tech devices on the market.
Of course, Apple has remained true to this tradition which reinforces the identity of the brand and identifies users within the select “Apple Club”. And which of course means no more free advertising.
Of course, the stickers have also changed. Typically, the stickers were white, a color Apple has always used on its devices. In 2018, Apple first included special gray stickers to match the MacBook Air. This 2021, with the launch of the iMac M1, it included two stickers to match the colors of the iMac M1.
