There are still months to go before we meet Google’s new smartphones, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, but the first rumors and leaks already indicate that it will have a radical change in the module of its camerasthat the non-“Pro” model will include one more sensor than previous generations, and that its design will change considerably.
But that’s not all. Your screen will also benefit from some exciting new features, including a technology Google has dubbed “adaptive touch”, which allows the mobile phone to automatically adjust the sensitivity of the touch screen depending on the conditions of our environment and the way we use the mobile phone.
A screen with better sensitivity in the rain or with gloves, automatically
Originally, this new feature was discovered in February, while exploring the code of the first beta version of Android 14 QPR3. By following the following path in the settings menu: Settings > Display > Touch sensitivityThe latest development build of Android 14 adds a new option called “Adaptive Touch”.
This function allows, as revealed by Android Authority, that the mobile can automatically adjust touch sensitivity depending on the environment, the activities we do or, very importantly, if we use a screen protector.
In general, the touch screen of a smartphone works less well or erratically if we try to use it when our fingers are wet or if the screen itself gets a little wet (e.g. in the rain). It can also affect its operation if we use it with gloves or if we have installed a screen protector. The idea of the adaptive touch feature would be to solve this problem and make the panel work properly under these conditions.
Adaptive touch could be exclusive to the new Google Pixel
After discovering this novelty, the most important question was whether it would reach the most recent Google Pixels already on the market (like the Google Pixel 8 Pro or the Pixel 7, for example), or whether it would be exclusive to the new models. Unfortunately, until now Available information indicates that it will only reach the Pixel 9
Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2 code reveals Adaptive Touch feature is a function classified “P24”, according to Android Authority. This is the formula Google usually uses to refer to Pixel devices of specific years, for example, P23 refers to the Pixel 8. Therefore, P24 would refer to devices arriving this year, i.e. the new Pixel 9.
To find out more about this and other news, and on which devices they will be available, we will have to wait until June, when Google I/O 2024 will take place, or perhaps until October, when the New Google Pixel phones are expected to debut.
