Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will cease functioning next January after several special events.
Before the pandemic, augmented reality games were really sweet days. Every now and then a new one would pop up, and many took advantage of well-known franchises to try and attract fans like Pokémon GO did at the time. In reality, Niantic, the creator of Pokémon GO, was one of the developers who got the most out of this type of game, taking advantage of the experience of pioneering games like Ingress.
Among the games that came out then, we find Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, developed by Niantic himself from the same technology they used to develop Pokémon GO. As the name suggests, this is an augmented reality game that gives us the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the magical world from the hands of some of the most iconic characters in this universe.
Sadly, it looks like he didn’t achieve the success that Warner Bros. and Niantic were looking, so in a few months they will be shutting down the game servers for good. Specifically, the following January 31, 2022 It is the day chosen to end this adventure. Of course, before that there will be a series of events designed to celebrate the final chapters of Harry Potter history.
Among the events that will take place until the closing day we find some devoted to the final chapters of the Harry Potter story, to confrontations against characters such as Bellatrix, Lucius Malfoy or Dolores Umbridge. And how could it be otherwise, we will also face Voldemort in december, just before starting the countdown to the end of the game in January.
Thus, Niantic announces the end of one of his many adventures to make room for others who could be more interesting. One example is Pikmin Bloom, its recent launch in collaboration with Nintendo, which certainly won’t be the last.
