Android 15 is here with the rollout of the update for the Google Pixel. There are many new features in Android 15, but for those who are still going limited storage space It doesn’t get any better than this: application archiving.
Google has gradually introduced app archiving on Android. It came first from Google Play and in a limited way, but it’s much better in Android 15. It’s a mode of free up space for apps you don’t use but keep them handy to reuse them at any time.
Why uninstall if you can archive
An effective way to free up space on your phone is to uninstall apps, but with Android 15 you have an additional option: archiving them. An archived application can take 95% less than the non-archived version and, best of all, it remains on hand so you can reuse it at any time.
Inste ad of uninstalling the app and, if you need it later, reinstalling it, when you archive an app, it is remains in the system, but in a reduced version
The good news about Android 15 is that we can manually archive any applicationwhich is not possible with the archive version that occurs in Google Play. Manually archiving an app in Android 15 is done in a few simple steps:
- Long press the icon of the app you want to uninstall.
- In the menu that appears, tap App Info.
- Credit Deposit.
That’s it, you don’t need to archive an app and turn it into something like a download shortcut. If you tap on this app, with the cloud icon, it will be downloaded again from Google Play so you can use it again. You can see the progress on the icon itself, as well as in a Google Play notification.
The best of all is that your data is keptthe application will therefore remain the same as if you had never uninstalled it. This is ideal for applications that you use only very occasionally, such as when traveling.
Android 15 can archive apps for you
And in many cases, you won’t even have to do anything, since Android 15 will be standard. Automatically archive apps you don’t use for a long time. This is the default configuration, which you can also check in the section Application information of any application.
If you prefer that certain applications always remain installed and not archived, this is where you should uncheck Manage the app if it’s not in use. This will prevent it from being automatically archived.
