One of the great things about having so many apps compatible with Android Auto is that you have the flexibility to try and choose. the one that best suits your tastes and needs. If we talk about navigation apps for Android Auto, you will find some quality ones and most of them are free, but if there are two that take the cake in terms of popularity, they are Google Maps and Waze.
I have already explained once that when driving I prefer Waze to Google Maps, but the reality is that both Google applications are of quality: Maps shines in some functions compared to Waze and vice versa. If there is a tool where I like Waze, it is precisely the presence of radars, but why choose if you can have the best of both applications? This trick allows you to benefit from Waze radar warning when using Google Maps on Android Auto.
The comparison between Waze and Google Maps on Android Auto is close and beyond personal perceptions such as the interface, in other sections they can be evaluated objectively. Thus, while the first stands out for its radar alert, incident and route notifications, Google Maps is better at displaying points of interest, offers a satellite view, allows route sharing … so it is normal that hard to choose between one or the other beyond the inertia of using Google Maps simply because it is standard.
Ultimately, if there’s one feature that makes a difference (especially if you like to step on the gas), it’s the traffic alerts for speed cameras and other incidents, where Waze takes the lead due to the active nature of its community. But using Google Maps doesn’t mean giving up Waze notifications.…as long as both applications are open and configured in a certain way.
Here’s how to get Waze speed camera warnings on Google Maps with Android Auto
As we mentioned in the previous point, The key is to have both apps open. Of course, if you want to use the Google Maps interface, this will be the application that should appear in the foreground on the screen of your car infotainment system.
Previously we will have opened Waze, which must be configured to enable alerts. To do this, in the Waze application on your mobile, go to ‘Settings‘ > ‘Alerts and warnings‘ > ‘Notice‘ (Important, in ‘Zone’, make sure ‘All’ is checked, which is the default option). All alert types will appear there in a list. Go through the list and one by one, configure the ones you want to receive by activating the toggles that appear.
Stick to the radarswe would do it with the first options: Radars and Traffic Light Radars. Once you have configured the alerts that interest you, we return to the car.
Before starting the journey, start Waze on Android Auto but don’t enter any directionsjust leave it in the background. Then open Google Maps and there enter the route and use it as usual: as soon as there is a radar on the Waze route, you will receive the notification even if you have Google Maps on the screen.
