The older folks here will remember System UI Tuner, a small hidden Android tool with which we could make a series of changes to what we wanted to see or not in the mobile status bar and other settings. The tool is outdated, but a third-party app is determined to replace it: System UI Tuner.
We told you about System UI Tuner two years ago and the app has evolved a lot in those two years. Now it’s easier than ever to get it working if you use Shizuku and integrate many new adjustments.
Root of Sin, but with Shizuku
First of all, you should know that System UI Tuner no root or Magisk neededalthough you need to give it permission to change options via ADB. Previously, this meant connecting your phone to a PC and running an ADB command, but it’s now much easier if you have Shizuku running on your phone. With Shizuku active, all you need to do is grant the System UI Tuner permission, with just one click.
Before continuing, please note that Use of the application involves certain risks
Applications
System UI Tuner categorizes the tweaks into different sections accessible from the side menu. The first of these is Applications and includes a few settings. You can, for example, enable free-form (resizable) windows, or change the default installation location of applicationsif your mobile is equipped with MicroSD.
Audio and sound
The next section is Audio and Sound, which also has a few options, one of which, highlighted in red, can be somewhat problematic. From here you can for example turn off the warning that your volume is too high when using the mobile phone with headphones.
Another interesting option allows you disable loading sound or better yet, change different sounds on your phone with custom audio files. This way you can change the sound when connecting the cell phone to the car and similar.
Promoter
In the developer section, you will find only one option through which you can prevent ADB from disconnecting after some time of inactivity, which can be somewhat frustrating if you plan to use it frequently.
Screen
In the Screen section, you can set the time it takes for the phone to securely lock after the screen turns off, a custom scaling size for fonts, or set screen rotation
We also find here a setting not too related to the screen: the battery percentage from which the battery saving mode will be activated, in addition to a somewhat problematic setting: night mode. The author warns us that this setting may cause the screen to go black and that you will need to use an ADB command to restore.a
Red
System UI Tuner’s network settings are divided into three sections, each with a few settings. From the mobile data settings, you can make some adjustments to the SMS service, while in Wi-Fi there is a tweak to try Avoid tethering restrictions from some operators.
Finally, in the miscellaneous section you will find complete customization on how does airplane mode behave. With that refine You can choose whether you want Airplane mode to turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, and mobile data, or just some of them.
Interactions
In Interactions you will find options to adjust how interactions work. notifications, status bar and quick settings of Android. In some ways, this is the section most similar to the UI Tuner of the stock Android system.
In notifications, you can, for example, include the Do Not Disturb button in the volume control, while in the status bar you can choose precisely which icons do you want to display or notincluding seconds on the clock or battery percentage.
System
In the system section, you will find only one setting, but it can be useful if you have very little space on your phone. The setting allows you to prevent Android from not stopping bothers you by telling you that you have little spaceby choosing precisely the percentage of available storage with which it should alert you.
User interface
The user interface is one of the sections that has the most settings to change. Here you can make gesture operating parameterskeep the screen on when the phone is charging, enable gestures to open the camera or a custom animation scale.
Advance
Finally we have Advancewith a handful of options for those who know exactly what they want to change and can’t find that option in the rest of the sections. Here you can cchange a system variable (if you know his name) by hand.
It is also possible make the app display all adjustmentsbecause System UI Tuner hides some settings that it thinks shouldn’t work on your mobile because you’re using a certain layer of Android. If you prefer to see everything, you can do so, but be aware that if they’re hidden, it’s because they probably don’t work or are causing problems.
