The oldest in the place will remember System UI Tuner, a small hidden Android tool with which we could make a series of changes on what we wanted to see in the mobile status bar or not and other parameters. The tool is outdated, but a third-party application is determined to replace it: System UI Tuner.
We told you about System UI Tuner two years ago and the application has evolved a lot during these two years. It’s now easier than ever to get it working if you use Shizuku and incorporate lots of new settings.
Root of sin, pero with Shizuku
First of all, you should know that System UI Tuner no need for root or Magisk, although you have to give it permission to change the options via ADB. Previously this meant connecting the phone to a PC and running an ADB command, but now it’s much easier if Shizuku is running on the phone. With Shizuku active, all you have to do is give System UI Tuner permission, with just one click.
Before proceeding, note that the use of the application involves certain risks, because the developer will force you to acknowledge when prompted on startup. Some settings can cause the mobile to stay with a black screen or something may not work properly. Also, many adjustments they will not work on some layers like MIUI, EMUI or ColorOS. The app highlights the most problematic settings in red.
Apps
System UI Tuner categorizes tweaks into different sections accessible from the side menu. The first of these is Applications and includes a few settings. You can, for example, enable free-form (resizable) windows, or change the default install location of appsif your mobile is equipped with MicroSD.
audio and sound
The next section is Audio and Sound, which also has a few options, one of which, highlighted in red, may be somewhat problematic. From here you can, for example, disable the warning that you have the volume too high when using the mobile with a headset.
Another interesting option allows you disable charging sound or better yet, change different mobile sounds with custom audio files. So you can change the sound that is played when connecting the mobile to the car, etc.
developer
In the developer section you will find only one option by which you can prevent adb from disconnecting after a while of inactivity, which can be a bit frustrating if you’re going to use it frequently.
Filter
In the screen section you can set the time it takes for the mobile to safely lock after the screen turns off, a custom scale size for fonts or set screen rotation With every little detail.
Also included here is a setting not too tied to the screen: the battery percentage at which battery saver mode will activate, as well as a somewhat problematic setting: night mode. The author warns us that this setting can cause the screen to go black and you will need to use an ADB command to restore.a
Red
System UI Tuner’s network settings are divided into three sections, each with a few settings. From the mobile data settings you can make some adjustments on the SMS service, while in Wi-Fi there is an adjustment to try bypass the connection restrictions of certain operators.
Finally, in the miscellaneous section, there is a complete customization of how does airplane mode behave. With that twist you can choose whether you want airplane mode to turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and mobile data, or just some of them.
interactions
In interactions, you will find options to adjust how interactions work. notifications, status bar and quick settings from Android. In a way, this is the most similar section to the stock Android system UI tuner.
In notifications you can, for example, include the Do Not Disturb button in the volume control, while in the status bar you can choose precisely which icons you want to display or notincluding seconds on the clock or battery percentage.
System
In the system section you will find only one configuration, but it can be useful if you have very little space on your mobile. The setting lets you prevent Android from shutting down bother you by telling you that you have little spaceby precisely choosing the percentage of available storage space that it should warn you about.
user interface
One of the sections that has more settings to modify is the user interface. Here you can do some settings on how gestures workkeep the screen on when the mobile is charging, activate gestures to open the camera or a custom animation scale.
Advanced
We finally have Advanced, with a handful of options for those who know exactly what they want to change and can’t find that option in the rest of the sections. Here you can cmodify a system variable (if you know his name) by hand.
It is also possible make the app show all the adjustments, because System UI Tuner hides some settings that it knows shouldn’t work on your mobile because you’re using a certain layer of Android. If you’d rather see everything, you can, although you’ve been warned that if they’re hidden, it’s probably because they’re not working or causing issues.
