“Remember the presentation of iOS 18? This year 2024 was impressive. It changed the history of iOS forever, just like iOS 7 in 2013. What memories when we were all using iPhones and not Apple Vision , which since its major update in light format “They have reached the whole world. The truth is, I would pay to relive what WWDC 2024 was like where Apple revolutionized its mobile operating system.”
I hope one day I can write an introduction like that. Or message an Apple enthusiast friend who felt the same emotions as me when We’re just hours away from experiencing a historic Apple event. Another one more. Last year, with the release of Vision Pro after decades of development, it was just the first step.
Honestly, my soul as a journalist requires me on a daily basis to be aware of all the good things that are yet to come, but also of the disappointments that could occur. And in a way, Álvaro, deeper, should perhaps lower his expectations so as not to suffer disappointment later. But you know what? That I don’t want it. I want to be excited. And I don’t want to hide it.
The prelude to something (very) big
It’s been years since I’ve felt this much excitement in the weeks leading up to an Apple developer conference. And make no mistake, WWDC is my favorite Apple event. Even above those of the new iPhones. After all, it is in these events that an element as fundamental as the software is presented and, as icing on the cake, transversally for many devices without having to go through the checkout.
However, I think that from the most enthusiastic to the least close to the brand we agree on something: iOS hasn’t been exciting for many years. And be careful, I don’t want any misinterpretations here either. This is not necessarily a negative thing, but it can even have a positive reading as, in my opinion, it does.
iOS is an extremely mature system and while some shortcomings can be attributed, there is nothing serious about it. Personalization, greater openness to third parties and nothing else. These are big classic “problems” of the iPhone system and even they have been alleviated in the latest versions. It’s not perfect, of course not.
For many years, I have straddled Android and iOS to the point that I could live perfectly with one or the other. However, I always end up switching back to iOS for purely personal reasons. And like me, many other users who choose between one or the other for minimal aspects that ultimately help them in their daily lives.
Not being left behind is an exciting challenge
Unlike my colleague Pedro Aznar, director of Applesfera, I do not have such a long professional and usage history. In my backpack I have 12 years of experience as a brand user and seven of them as a technology media professional. A lot or a little, depending on who reads it and how you want to interpret them. Enough, in my opinion, to witness the evolution and stagnation of a system which, for many, does not go any further. And maybe that was a true statement two years ago, but not anymore.
The rise of generative artificial intelligenceand I specify generative because AI has existed for a long time and Apple also applies it, it has forced everything big tech press the accelerator. And OpenAI, Microsoft and even Google already have a good list of advances at this point and Apple, unlike them, has been afraid to even say the term “artificial intelligence”. Until now.
The leaks suggest that several developments in the field of AI with iOS 18 and the rest of the systems, since it will be something transversal to all operating systems. For some of these features, we are talking about OpenAI as a supplier, with which Apple has reached an agreement according to sources close to the two companies. And all this without excluding Google from the equation.
Bad omen has no place on this occasion
Like I said before, it makes sense that part of me has some caution when it comes to measuring expectations and part of me says “hey, calm down, maybe that later, it won’t be so bad.” “Of course, this can happen and lead to disappointments, even if I decided to enjoy it.
After almost a decade of working in the technology communications industry and feeling like I’ve seen it all, few things give me high expectations. On the other hand, artificial intelligence fascinates me again. Therefore, clipping my wings while dreaming is now absurd.
There are hours before the start of this event which, in its prelude, promises to be historic. Nerves are raw. And frankly, I don’t know if what happens after June 10 will change our lives or not. Maybe that’s dreaming too high. Even if If anyone showed how to break the market, it was Apple. Now they have to do it all over again.
At Applesfera we will tell you everything up to the minute
As it could not be otherwise, at Applesfera we will be attentive to what Apple presents at WWDC 2024 to bring you all the news in real time, in addition to analyzing the first beta versions of the new operating systems in the next days.
Furthermore, our colleague and director Pedro Aznar will be at Apple Park not only attending the event in person, but also being able to bring in exclusive content from all other events at this conference. And, we remember, WWDC 2024 does not end with the first keynote, but rather with a first course followed by an entire week dedicated to developers.
