The big problem with gaming products is that they are usually quite expensive; something understandable, since they usually have the best possible hardware to achieve the best performance. Even consoles considered “cheap” are prohibitively expensive for many users, because otherwise they would not be able to offer a good experience.
Of course, there are cheap brands dedicated to gaming products, but their devices usually don’t differ much from “normal” devices, aside from a different design and some RGB lights. So it’s always good news when a cheap brand offers a product with features that are not typical for its low price.
This is what Xiaomi seems to have achieved with the new Redmi G34WQ, a gaming monitor that it presented this week in China. Belonging to the Redmi range, it is a cheaper device than usual, with a price of 1,499 yuan, which would be around 194 dollars; In Europe for this price you can usually get a normal desktop monitor, but this G34WQ is much more.
The Redmi G34WQ has features more typical of monitors that cost more than twice as much, like a refresh rate up to 180 Hz which we should be able to enjoy in fast and online games; In this sense, the response time of 1 ms also stands out. It supports Free Sync to avoid the “split screen” effect in games with AMD graphics cards.
Although the company has not detailed the type of panel used, with these characteristics it is very likely that it is based on IPS technology, although it is also possible that it is a VA slab. However, Xiaomi is allaying fears that it is a low-quality panel by boasting a 95% DCI-P3 color gamut coverageand color accuracy with a DeltaE value less than 2. Maximum brightness is 350 nits, which is not very high but is typical in these ranges.
A very striking detail of this 34-inch monitor is that it is ultra panoramic and curved, with a curvature of 1500R; This should help us “get into” the game and feel supported. The resolution is 3440 x 1440 pixels, so it may be ideal for mid-range gaming PCs with graphics capable of running games at 2K and high frame rates. It also allows you to connect consoles, thanks to its two HDMI 2.0 ports as well as its two DisplayPort 1.4 ports. Of course, the monitor includes ambient RGB lighting.
Xiaomi has not confirmed the arrival of this monitor in Europe, so initially we will have to depend on import stores to obtain it.
